CLYW has announced the first retail release of the re-designed Borealis, the signature yoyo of 2015 World YoYo Champion Zach Gormley. While a small pre-release was available at the 2016 World YoYo Contest in Iceland, this is the first full release of this re-designed version of the Borealis. Check out CLYW’s official release below:
The Borealis is the return top that helped Zach Gormley become the 2015 World YoYo Champion, and now it’s even better!
This modified organic shaped return top has quickly become a favorite of players all over the world, and we’ve worked with Zach to adapt the Borealis to better suit his ever changing style. As his tricks have become even more challenging and acrobatic, so must the Borealis change to keep up with his needs. We’ve widened the catch zone a bit and created slightly more of a V-shape to the profile, and moved some weight from the center to the rim for increases stability. The changes sound small on paper, but make a huge difference on the string.
This new Borealis is ideal for fans of the original who are hoping for a little more power and stability…or just anyone looking for a competition-friendly return top with a more comfortable profile.
This run of Borealis ships with a Center Trac bearing.
Available Thursday, December 14th at YoYoExpert.com. Check out full specs and more pics below!

The Basecamp Navigator is the newest collaboration between CLYW and YoYoFactory, and the first bi-metal design from Basecamp. Designed for serious competition, the Navigator was designed by pulling features and inspiration from several competitor-focused YoYoFactory and CLYW yoyos used by players to win titles all over the world. This design direction, plus the addition of brushed stainless steel rims for superior weight distribution make this easily the most competition-oriented model in the entire Basecamp line, and one of the more exciting new contest yoyo releases.
The Navigator really is an incredible contest yoyo. It’s got all the speed and stability you would expect of a bi-metal yoyo, but where it really shines is horizontal play. Even without a cupped area for finger spins, the Navigator really excels at horizontal play. With its extra flared gap, zero wall response, and massive concentration of rim weight, an experienced player should have no problem pulling off their most extravagant horizontal combos with this yoyo, and even players new to horizontal play should find themselves progressing quicker than they thought possible. The brushed finish on the rims is a nice touch that prevents that drag that is common to bi-metal yoyos when they hit your hand during play.
As you can see from the comparison image below, the final look of the Navigator combines a very functional YoYoFactory H-shape with the stylings and curves more common to CLYW, and the result is a stunning blend of form+function. The fit of the stainless steel rims is impeccable, and the matte finish gives the Navigator a premium look and feel. The engraving is minimal, but the Basecamp word mark on just one rim is a really nice, subtle touch.
The Basecamp Navigator retails for $120. For a high quality competition yoyo that draws inspiration from some of the most decorated competition yoyos in the world, that seems like a pretty good deal. If you’re on a budget, there are plenty of other options but you won’t find much better in the bi-metal category. Not a casual purchase, but then again it’s not a casual player.
The Basecamp Navigator is available at YoYoExpert.com.

The long awaited CLYW Big Dipper finally has a release date: February 18th, 2016.
This plastic signature yoyo for 2015 World YoYo Champion Zach Gormley follows a similar shape as the Borealis, the aluminum signature yoyo he used to take last year’s title. Obviously design changes were made to accommodate the different material; thicker walls, less detail in the gap and cup, etc., but overall it’s still similar enough to the Borealis to get the point across.
Suggested retail price for the Big Dipper is $35, putting it in-line with other premium plastic offerings by similar sized companies. And the Big Dipper comes stock with a centering bearing and Kitty String Fat.
In addition to this bit of good news, we also get a SLEW of short promo clips for the Big Dipper, featuring Zach Gormley, Alec Campbell, Dennis Cinquegrani, and Aaron Davis, all embedded below. Enjoy!
