Hassy from 44FESTA sends word about the PROJECT2015 wrap-up report.
PROJECT2015 was 44FESTA’s contribution to the 2015 World Yo-yo Contest, held last year in Tokyo.
In addition to helping promote the contest, the crew was also present on the contest floor running side events like the 44CLASH Battle Tournament, and the 44FESTA game booth.
44FESTA leader Masanobu Iwata
FESTALAND, the game booth, was super popular among attendees, and featured traditional Eastern and Western carnival games like ring-toss, goldfish (or in this case bouncy-ball) fishing, and shooting range.
Another hugely successful side event was of course the 44CLASH Battle Tournament, featuring some of the most creative and acrobatic yo-yo players from around the globe.
The event was led by Fist Salud’s leader and 44CLASH organizer Dee:
MC Dee
The Battle Tournament was of course hugely popular, and featured names like János Karancz, Tsubasa Onishi, Rei Iwakura, and the eventual winner, Paul Kerbel.
Be sure to check out PROJECT2015’s event report with lots more pictures. The crew worked hard for month to help make Tokyo 2015 the greatest yo-yo contest ever held and it shows!

The International YoYo Federation has extended the deadline for proposals to host the 2018 World YoYo Contest. The 2018 World YoYo Contest will be held in Asia.
There are several inquiries for running WYYC2018 in Asia, however, many of them are not fully ready for putting their proposals yet. Therefore IYYF extended the deadline to Feb. 1, 2016 from originally Dec. 1, 2015.
If you are interested in running WYYC2018 in your country, please send your proposal to iyyf@iyyf.org by Feb. 1, 2016.

Cleveland yoyo player and recent addition to the Recess Intl. team Colin Beckford picked up a nice interview in the recent wave of press for the announcement of Cleveland, Ohio as the host city for the 2016 World YoYo Contest. Check out an excerpt below, along with a link to the full article.
Colin Beckford, a 15-year-old junior at St. Ignatius High School, practices two to four hours a day. He doesn’t play video games, he doesn’t watch television. This past summer he beat out hundreds to win the 2015 International Yo-Yo Championship (IYYC), which ranks him 17th on the planet. Beckford is an international yo-yo champion. You read that right – yo-yos.
In pursuit of excellence, this past summer alone, Beckford traveled to Orlando, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan. In Minnesota he competed in the Midwest Regional Yo-Yo Championship and won in the 1A and 3A categories.* In Michigan he completed in the Mideast Regional Yo-Yo Championship, where he won 1A and 3A categories as well. In August it was the International Yo-Yo Championship in Anaheim, where he took first place in the 1A category, beating over 100 competitors.
Beckford’s mom and dad, Dawn and Nelson, couldn’t be more proud. “At a very young age, Colin was fascinated by the alphabet — he could recite it forwards or backwards,” Nelson says. “Then it was other alphabets, then weather, then maps and countries. His mind, his personality is to grasp and devour. He simply isn’t done with something unless he’s mastered it.”
Beckford’s parents point to his tenacity, focus and skill “[Yo-yoing] is not like throwing and catching a ball,” Dawn says. “There’s a lot more to it – it’s nerdy and smart; he’s really found his niche.” She suggests watching some of his skill on YouTube videos.
