It’s amazing how much one place can influence a person. All of us here at Kendama USA are influenced by the birthplace of kendama… Japan. A portion of our team was honored to be invited to visit the birthplace of kendama for sessions, meetings, product-releases, and plotting the future course of our sport.
It was destined to be an amazing time, and who better than Colin Sander to showcase it to you. Let’s be real… we were there because Kazuma Iwata, the maker of MUGEN, was coming back.
Enjoy next-level tricks, a star-studded juggler list, and all of the unpredictable beauty that the far east bestows upon us with each visit. This is Kendama USA’s Gloken Musou Tour edit. Japan 2013.This trip and all the events around it would not have been possible without an endless list of helpers, performers, shops, hosts, and so on. Watch the video, and you’ll catch them all in there.

Jake Wiens and Matthew Rice have recruited a brain trust of engineers to help them produce small-batch kendamas with interesting new design features, and the result is Grain Theory. No word on pricing or release details for the first batch, but watching this video I think it’s safe to say that the kendama world is going to lose their damn minds when these drop, so keep an eye on GrainTheory.com for a chance to snag one from what will no doubt end up being an historic first batch.
UPDATE: Grain Theory kendamas are available here: http://www.graintheory.bigcartel.com/. Looks like the complete kendamas are sold out, but you can still pick up the Beach Ken (ken only, no tama) for $35.

HUGE congratulations to our friend Jake Wiens on his new sponsorship by Kendama USA! Jake is one of the leading forces in the development and promotion of the modern kendama scene, and is a tremendous human being. It’s great to see someone get the recognition they deserve, and Jake deserves all the accolades he can possibly handle.
This video is a fantastic profile on Jake, with help from Jeremy Stephenson, Matt Rice, Harald Boyesen, Sourmash, Andy Olive, Guy Wright, and Tori Riley. Jake’s signature model kendama will be released in 2014.

Jake Wiens of The Kengarden ruminates on this toy he loves. Substitute the word “yoyo” for “kendama” and everything Jake is saying here still applies.
