Hong Kong-based yoyo company C3yoyodesign presents a new video for their budget contest yoyo, the Accelerator, featuring members of the Japanese C3 Team. Featuring Shinya Kido, Rei Iwakura, Ryuichi Nakamura, and Reia Torita.
Yoyo used is the C3yoyodesign Accelerator.
Jeffrey Pang loves to travel, throw yoyos, and create beautiful things. His latest beautiful thing is the Luftverk x CLYW Tundra, which he’s throwing (quite nicely, I might add) in this latest love letter to his well-worn passport. Watch as Jeff travels through Macau, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Kyoto with the Tundra. Amazing, as always.

Between the myriad of Google translations I’ve found in association with this video, all I can really report is that it’s from Hong Kong, it originally aired in 1989, and it’s amazing.

C3yoyodesign has dropped full photos and specs of their new signature model for World YoYo Champion Rei Iwakura! The Flawless is a new offstring yoyo designed to Iwakura-san’s specifications, and landing in stores soon.

“Flawless” is created by Rei and C3yoyodesign together from drawing, prototyping to production. Thanks to the Internet, we kept updating all the progress to Rei during whole process.
Using Neo Solar as blueprint, “Flawless” inherit the comfortable shape and response system from Neo Solar, also adding the personal characteristic of Rei’s unique style.
During the first prototype(90grams), we almost hit the jackpot. But after spending weeks for testing, we decided to fine tune by adding weight to 103grams. The production version provide a smoother and higher stability on either single yoyo or Soloham play. With a higher mass, it perform a better circular trajectory while playing with single yoyo and also spins more powerful. What’s more, we updated the hubs design for better fingerspin control!
“Flawless” combined all the experience we got from previous 4A design and Rei ‘s opinion about his dream design. We can’t wait to see the Rei’s “Flawless” freestyle in Japan National Yoyo Contest 2015!!!“Flawless” have thin + thick spacer combination installed as factory spec and come with glittering sticker for decoration!!!
World YoYo Champion Gentry Stein had a great time on his recent Orient Express tour, and this video from Hong Kong shows off not only some of his new tricks but also a hilarious “underground yoyo battle” between local players. It looks like it was about 60% yoyo tricks and 40% bad dancing and good posing, which makes for a pretty awesome time. Congrats to Simpson Wong on his win!
Here’s an awesome submission we got from the 1960 Hong Kong yoyo champion, Tony Tebbutt. It’s always great to get first-hand accounts of yoyo contests from the “golden age”. Check out what Tony has to say about the contest below. (Thanks to Korda at YoYoStore.cz for sending us this one!)
That’s me in the center of the photograph, the 1960 yo-yo champion of Hong Kong and Macau. I won what was then an enormous prize of $7,500 HKD (editor’s note: that’s about $15,790 USD today!) sponsored by Coca Cola and Russell yo-yo’s. I think this was the first such contest in Asia and the skill level and engineering development of the yo-yo today is light years ahead of what we had in the 1960’s. Nevertheless the competition was as fierce as it is today and the experience was one of the highlights of my life. My ability with the yo-yo never left me and throughout my career I would find occasions to use my yo-yo to bring some fun and levity to speeches to some very large audiences. This Hong Kong boy, born of Eurasian heritage, went on to University in California and senior management positions in Canada and England before becoming the President of a $2 billion US company. Keep practicing, you never know where your yo-yo might take you! Today I am 66, retired, wrote a book on my teenage years in Hong Kong (including the yo-yo contest) and on occasion I still give yo-yo demonstrations.
As a former yo-yo prodigy, it is so exciting to read about the re-emergence of yo-yo contests around the world and then be able to watch some of the performances via YouTube. Technology and Talent have brought the modern-day yo-yo contest to a vastly different skill level vs. the way it was in Hong Kong in the year 1960. In those days, the contest format was very different but the pressure to perform was as grueling as it is for today’s contestants. If you would like to know more about a major yo-yo championship held back in the “old days,” the excitement, the drama and the prizes; I devote an entire chapter in my book A Rising Son In The Land Of Nine Dragons.

Hong Kong Nationals celebrated the event’s 10th birthday, with the promise of a united entity (HKYYFC + HereWeYo!) running the contest from now on!
In 1A, 2A, and 5A, last year’s winners Benson Fok, Liu Man Ki, and Denny Ko, respectively, were able to successfully defend their titles. The highly competitive 3A and 4A divisions got fresh new champions, with Anson Tam and Chan Chun Hin!
Defending 1A champion Benson Fok also joined the shades-powered team sOMEThING, adding yet another national title holder to the strong team led by Hiroyuki Suzuki.

Blk Sens, a new Hong Kong-based yoyo company, has announced a new looping yoyo called the Traccia designed by Yiu SiuHo, the Hong Kong and China 2A Champion. Full specs are below, along with more pics of the guts and gap. It’s pretty interesting that a new company would choose to go with a looping yoyo…for this price I can only assume it’s a re-branded version of an existing yoyo already being made in China. Since it looks to simply be a fairly straightforward Raider clone, I think it’s safe to assume these will need heavy lube for modern 2A play.
Duncan Toys just announced on their Facebook page that special edition Monsters University versions of the Duncan Pro Z yo-yos are now available exclusively at Hong Kong Disneyland. This special edition Pro Z is available in 4 designs, each with unique Monsters University artwork on both sides that features Monsters University characters such as Sulley, Mike Wazowski, Art, and Squishy.
Price shown on the back is 88 HKD, which converts to around $11 USD each…plus a plane ticket to Hong Kong and admission to the park. The Mod Spacers are not included in this release, so this is only a standard-shaped Pro Z yoyo.
C3yoyodesign x REWIND Video Contest 2013
The heat of summer is slowly creeping in. School is out for many and that makes a great chance to work on your yo-yo skills. We thought, why not have another video contest! It’s the perfect way to showcase your awesome skills! This time we’re teaming up with current hit maker of high quality professional yo-yos, C3yoyodesign, to help judge the entries.
C3yoyodesign is currently on the lookout for new members for their sponsor team. That doesn’t mean that this is just an audition video contest though. Anyone can participate, and of course it’s okay to use any maker’s yo-yos in your video!
Video Contest Rules
– Make a clip video showcasing your yo-yo skill.
– You can use any maker’s yo-yos for this clip video, and perform any style or mix of styles.
– The entry period is from June 11th to July 10th, 2013.
– Videos will be judged based on the difficulty and originality, quality and polish of the video (mood, music, cinematography, editing, etc).
– Special awards will be chosen based on the judge’s preference.
– Once your video is uploaded, submit the entry form here: (please include your name, e-mail address, and video link so we know how to contact you if you win)
– Entries (including your uploaded video and entry form) must be received by July 10th, 2013.
