Harrison Lee is easily one of the most talented and stage-comfortable yoyo players of the last ten years. And just to further cement his legend, he made a special appearance recently on Paul Anthony’s “Talent Time”, a live comedy/variety talk show hosted on the first Thursday of every month at the Rio Theatre in Vancouver, and broadcasted on Shaw TV and the Novus Network.

Harrison Lee had a brief cameo in the hotly contested Seth Rogan / James Franco comedy, “The Interview”. The movie made headlines all over the world when Sony Pictures decided not to release it due to threats from North Korea, whose leader is depicted (and assassinated) in the film. Then Sony came to their senses and released it anyway, everyone had a good chuckle, and nothing bad happened.
But more importantly, at 16:30 in the film, Seth Rogan is riding in the back of a wagon in China and Harrison Lee is riding shotgun…and throwing a yoyo! I wrote up a quick interview with Harrison for the CLYW site…check it out below.
Now that The Interview has finally been released, we finally got to see Harrison Lee’s cameo!
At 16:30, he’s riding shotgun on a wagon carrying Seth Rogan and a lot of hay as he enters China for a rendezvous with his North Korean contact. You can see him throwing a return top, but it’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it kinda deal. I caught up with Harrison to chat a little about his experience.
So Harrison, how did you get involved in The Interview?
About two years ago, I got involved in acting. I have an agent, so my agent booked me for an audition for The Interview since it was filming here. I got the part, not thinking I would actually be playing return top in the movie. On set I was just hanging out and working on some tricks, and once Seth saw me he wanted to incorporate return top play in the movie! (I used a CLYW Yeti, by the way). I thought I would have a longer scene since I was there filming for two days, so it was a little disappointing that it was so short. But still, really cool that I was in the movie!
Have you been actively pursuing a career in acting, or is this just something that you’d like to do on the side?
Just something on the side because it’s fun and different. I actually got into acting because of wanting to improve my yoyo performing.
How much did you actually get to interact with Seth Rogan and James Franco on set?
I never got to meet James, but I got to interact with Seth during my scene and for short times here and there. He was really busy though since he was both acting in the scene I was in, and then directing as well.
Is Seth Rogan a cool guy?
Very cool. In real life he’s just as funny as he is in the movies.
Were high fives exchanged?
LOL, I don’t remember but I want to say yes? Yes! Absolutely!
Anything else you want to say about the experience?
It was really cool! It was really different seeing everything behind the scenes with a movie, like all the props, all the staff, etc. Also pretty cool that I’m listed on IMDB as “YoYo Boy”.
