Harrison Lee – PNWR Recap

You can always count on 2013 Canadian National Champion Harrison Lee for a great recap video! Here is Harrison’s look at the 2014 Pacific Northwest Regional event, recently held in Seattle, WA. PNWR is the first NYYL Regional event of 2014, and a great way to kick off the contest season. Click here for full results from the event.

This is the 10th year of PNWR, organized by National YoYo Master Nathan Crissey. Next year he’ll be handing the contest over to TMBR’s Colin Leland and it’s moving up to Portland. Nathan had an absolutely amazing run building this event up into something truly first class…congratulations on an amazing run, Nathan!

Wisconsin Crew – Intro To 2014

44FESTA vol.04 report

Masanobu Iwata brings us the goods from yet another edition of 44FESTA! This edition was held on November 23rd.

Look at that venue! 44FESTA has the perfect setting for yoyoing and that’s one of the reasons it’s one of our favorite regular yo-yo events in Japan. Even living legend John Ando made a guest appearance!

A fun mini-contest was held once again. This time, a Long Sleeper Pass was the day’s challenge, with the winner being determined by the lucky player who had the yo-yo when the sleeper died.

The freestyle contest had 22 players, and we’re once again thrilled to see the new generation giving the old-timers a run for their money!

The crew will be holding a special year-end event called 44FESTIVAL on December 14th, and numerous World Champions are expected to show up for a special mixed-division freestyle contest. Takeshi Matsuura, Shu Takada, Tsubasa Onishi and others have been invited.

The regular 44FESTA events will resume with vol.5 on January 18th, followed by vol.6 on February 23rd. Be there!

In June of 2013, Werrd had asked Vu and I to join them on a journey to Japan for JN2013. While there we met a lot of cool players, and went on a mini adventure. for the past month and a half we thought the footage was lost, but now we found it. Crackerjack Juggling – Tom Gaskin

Modern-day gentleman juggler Tom Gaskin put together this great video showing off his mastery of traditional “gentleman juggling”, which involved a lot of hat & cane work, plus a mouthstick made to look like a cigar as well as cigar box juggling. Traditionally, gentleman jugglers would perform routines made to look specifically effortless, as though they had taken a break from a cocktail party to amuse a few children before they wandered back for another round of drinks. But Gaskin puts in a bit more modern flair and turns out a really nice video that captures the old while still keeping it in a modern setting and style.

Final 5A Tutorials from Miguel Correa

National YoYo Champion Miguel Correa has posted the last 4 tutorials in his 5A Video Tutorials series at DefinitiveYoYoing.com, and they should keep you busy for a while.

On a personal note, a huge thanks to Miguel for always working so incredibly hard to promote counterweight yoyo play. There’s been a profound lack of any real promotion of the style in recent years, but Miguel has always gone the extra mile to make these teaching tools available for new players who want to learn. Thanks, Miggy! And if you like these tutorials, you should probably buy any yoyo that has Miguel’s name on it. No idea what yoyo that would be, but if you happen to run across one, it’s probably pretty good.

Triple Crown of YoYo 2013 / 2014 Announcement

Hey everyone!

We regret to announce that we will not be holding a Triple Crown of YoYo event in 2013. But it’s all good…we’ve just chosen to take the year off to allow Triple Crown organizer André Boulay and his wife Devon to concentrate on the birth of their first child, who is due right when the contest would have been held. Congratulations, you two!

Without André, the quality just wouldn’t have been as high as it should be and one thing we absolutely insist with the Triple Crown of YoYo is bringing you the highest quality event possible. So we’re passing on 2013, and immediately beginning work on the 2014 event!

And we’ve confirmed a new venue for Chicago 2014…the event will be held at Navy Pier!

This trick is stupidly difficult. Seriously. It’s difficult enough that I almost feel like a jerk for setting it loose and giving people the false hope of hitting it with any consistency.
