YoYo Spotlight – Axis YoYos EX!

September 30, 2016 By Steve Brown

Axis YoYos EX! at YoYoExpert.com

Axis YoYos EX! Specs:

Diameter: 57.45 mm
Width: 43.5 mm
Weight:  66.2 grams
Response: 19mm pad
Bearing: Centering Bearing Size C (.250 x .500 x .187)

The Axis YoYos EX! is the second bi-metal release from Axis YoYos, and their first new release of 2016.

PLAY

The Axis EX! has rim weight for days, and as any good bi-metal yoyo it just never seems to slow down. The EX! has a severe V-profile with a bit of a step on the rims, internal stainless steel weight rings, along with a gap step that leads the walls even further away from the string. Definitely designed with horizontal play in mind, you’ll get very little friction against the walls when playing horizonal, and the internal cup is great for fingerspins (as long as you don’t mind the engraving). For intermediate players who need that extra spin time to work the kinks out of their tricks, or contest killers who need a little extra spin and stability on stage, the Axis YoYos EX! will do the job.

LOOKS

The Axis YoYos EX! comes in six different solid colors, with a corresponding sticker and unique art designed for each colorway. The logo is clean, comic-book style art and the big, bold engraving looks great on the smooth inner cup of the yoyo halves. Overall it’s a clean look, and the unique packaging for each colorway really puts it over the top.

VALUE

The Axis YoYos EX! retails for $115, which is a pretty typical price for quality bi-metal yoyos. With all the spin time and stability you expect in a bi-metal yoyo, it’s definitely another quality release from Axis. If you liked their Pulsefire but want something a little more geared towards horizontal play, the EX! is a great choice.

The Axis YoYos EX! is available now at YoYoExpert.com.

First Look – Japan Technology Aire

September 30, 2016 By Steve Brown

Japan Technology Aire offstring yoyo

Japan Technology has revealed the new signature offstring yoyo for Bryan Figueroa, the Aire! Check out specs and details from Japan Technology below. It looks pretty amazing…can’t wait to try one!

The Signature model of Bryan Figueroa, who has many titles, is AIRE.

AIRE is a Bryan Figueroa style remake from JT’s first model Kamui. It contains the characteristics of the past JT models.

It certainly has the high quality basic performance, and also, this model’s strength is the bounce ability when it drops on the floor. JT had been dealing with this problem for a long time. We used to think that thinning the wings was the only solution. It bounces back high when it drops on the carpet. However, players have to play gently on hard floor because the wings are thin and weak. Also, its spinning force is not strong enough because the wings are light, so some players avoid using this model. AIRE solved this problem with its recovery skill.

On soft floor, it bounces back to a player while making a circular orbit. On hard floor, it bounces back straight to a player. This was made possible by combining four points in its design.

Inheritance, evolution, and fusion made it possible for Kamui’s successor, AIRE, with a new body and the ability to revolutionize.

Japan Technology Aire Specs:

Diameter: 78.0mm
Width: 58.5mm
Weight: 75.2g
Bearing: Size C (Flat)
Pad : JT Pad(Large)
Suggested Retail: ¥16,800 / $165 USD

Throw ft. Coffin Nachtmahr

September 29, 2016 By Steve Brown

The “Throw” documentary that we blogged about previously is now available for public viewing! The full 10-minute film is now available to watch online, and it’s a beautiful look at the power of our ridiculous passion and some strong insight into Coffin Nachtmahr, one of our own.

Throw tells the story of an outsider from East Baltimore, an area challenged by gang violence and poverty. Often misunderstood, Coffin Nachtmahr found acceptance among a subculture of “throwers” and it turns out, he’s a virtuoso. He now helps others find a creative and social outlet by sharing the very toy that inspired him.

David Larson, the co-director of the film, was walking through Patterson Park when he discovered Coffin playing with a yo-yo. Coffin is hard not to notice with his gothic appearance, eye makeup, and prodigy-like throwing moves. After a brief conversation we decided to learn more and now we’re proud to finally debut the film later this month. Please stay tuned to watch the full version that will soon be available on our website and social media channels.

This was an exciting and humbling project for us to undertake. Thank you Coffin for letting a couple of awkward dudes with cameras tag along with you for a little while, and of course thank you for having the courage to share your inspirational story.
