Jeffrey Pang loves to travel, throw yoyos, and create beautiful things. His latest beautiful thing is the Luftverk x CLYW Tundra, which he’s throwing (quite nicely, I might add) in this latest love letter to his well-worn passport. Watch as Jeff travels through Macau, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Kyoto with the Tundra. Amazing, as always.

The Luftverk x CLYW Tundra has been fully revealed, and it’s a beauty. From an intensive blog post by Luftverk founder Jeffrey Pang:
By now you’ve likely heard about the Tundra – the project involving both Luftverk and CLYW. It was something we worked together with, using design language from both companies. Its always really interesting when a brand can make a yoyo that has a universal design language across the board. And even though the CLYW line up has expanded to more experimental designs lately, its always very obvious it is a CLYW product – even without looking at logos or engravings. I try to do this with Luftverk as well, where when you pick one up you just know who produced it.
The design of the Tundra seems simple but is actually a mash up of all sorts of things. If you take a look at the profile – you can see that the catch zone was inspired by the Chief and original Yeti. Getting closer to the pad, the step is similar to the Borealis. And don’t forget the pad itself: the very loved CLYW “Snow Tire” which makes the yoyo feel very, very different than any Luftverk throw in the past. In fact – I feel that the pad itself makes this yoyo play the way it does. You need to try it in person to know what Im talking about.
The Tundra will be first available at the 2016 World YoYo Contest, beginning August 3rd in Cleveland, Ohio, and then online August 5th at 8 pm EST, only at Luftverk.com. Check out the full blog post about the design and assembly process here, and then check out specs and more pics below.

I got a chance to play an early prototype of The Standard by Core YoYo Co. at US Nationals last year. It’s weird and cool and fun and plays really nice and plays like nothing else on the market. Core Co. is happy to announce the official release of our first yoyo, The Standard. It will be available at the YoyoExpert booth during the World Yoyo Contest, August 3-6, 2016.
The Standard was designed based primarily around one idea, that a yoyo could have play that is independent of its shape. The Standard combines an aluminum “core” with acetal “shells” that are replaceable and interchangeable. The minimalist aluminum core allows for extremely efficient weight distribution, while the lightweight acetal shell is designed to be comfortable in hand. The result of this combination gives The Standard a completely unique feel. It is efficient, yet elegant. Comfortable yet performance oriented. Going forward, Core Co. will be introducing a variety of shells in different shapes, sizes and colors — all of which will be compatible with The Standard’s unique core.

Andrew Maider shows off a little something that he built off some foundation work by Takeshi Matsuura. It’s a great sequence of arm-based moves ending with a great-looking bind…definitely worth learning for any aspiring contest players!

CLYW and YoYoFactory have teamed up for a massive collaboration called BASECAMP, and it’s launching at the 2016 World YoYo Contest! The new collaborative brand will feature yoyo designs inspired by models from both companies, as well as new designs created collaboratively and other accessories like patches, stickers, tin mugs, and more.
The official release party and the first opportunity to buy BASECAMP releases will be Thursday, August 4th at SPACES Gallery, a short walk from the main contest venue & hotel. The party starts at 8 PM, and there will be a food truck for anyone who wants to pick up some dinner. Check out the official announcement below, as well as some teaser images of the new yoyos. The 44FESTA crew was in Singapore last month for the 2016 Asia Pacific Yo-yo Championships and they bring us a fresh report from the contest and the AAA Throwdown held at the contest after-party.

Hassy from 44FESTA sends word about the PROJECT2015 wrap-up report.
PROJECT2015 was 44FESTA’s contribution to the 2015 World Yo-yo Contest, held last year in Tokyo.
In addition to helping promote the contest, the crew was also present on the contest floor running side events like the 44CLASH Battle Tournament, and the 44FESTA game booth.

FESTALAND, the game booth, was super popular among attendees, and featured traditional Eastern and Western carnival games like ring-toss, goldfish (or in this case bouncy-ball) fishing, and shooting range.
Another hugely successful side event was of course the 44CLASH Battle Tournament, featuring some of the most creative and acrobatic yo-yo players from around the globe.

The Battle Tournament was of course hugely popular, and featured names like János Karancz, Tsubasa Onishi, Rei Iwakura, and the eventual winner, Paul Kerbel.
