CLYW x iYoYo Pixel Bearings

June 19, 2016 By Steve Brown

CLYW x iYoYo Pixel Bearings

CLYW and iYoYo have announced a new collaboration…but it’s a bearing, not a yoyo! Pixel Bearings are a collaborative release between the two companies that, unlike most collaborations, looks to be an ongoing project rather than a one-time release. Here are details from the CLYW website:

We’re excited to announce a new collaboration with iYoYo…Pixel Bearings!

We’ve always wanted our own special bearing. It’s one of those things…we always thought it would be neat to design a bearing that worked *a little bit better* in our return tops. Our friend Dave Geigle at iYoYo had an idea, and with some back-and-forth collaboration between him and Chris, Pixel Bearings were born!

Each Pixel Bearing features a series of eight steps, starting at the side walls and staggering down to the center of the bearing. This allows the string segments to micro-adjust and move past each other easily during complicated tricks. Eight steps…8-bit graphics…you see where we’re going with this. 😉

Pixel Bearings come lightly lubed from the factory. If you want your performance boost now, we recommend that you go ahead and clean the bearing before play. But if you’re patient, and willing to wait a bit longer, give it a single drop of your bearing cleaner of choice and then play it semi-responsive for a while and let the lube naturally break down over time. Could take days, could take weeks, but the end result will be a naturally broken-in bearing that plays crazy smooth with killer spin times.

Available soon at your favorite CLYW retailers!

We’ve got three of these Pixel Bearings to give away…just comment below and tell us why you want one, and we’ll pick three random answers to win a free Pixel Bearing. Winners will be selected Wednesday, June 22nd at noon EST.

Congratulations to Dylan Lear, JB, and Zach Smith on each winning a Pixel Bearing! Please check your email, and respond with your mailing address. Thanks, everyone!

Well, what serious player wouldn’t want one? lol, ummm the real reason that I want one is so that I can try it out, maybe use it for a competition or something.

Who doesn’t want free stuff? Plus, 8 bit video games like the original mario are so fun, and is a cool concept to put into a bearing.

  13. John says

    June 20, 2016 at 9:15 pm

I want one cuz I am super OCD so I constantly am trying new bearings in the search for the perfect bearing, and this could be it 🙂

  14. Corey says

    June 20, 2016 at 9:11 pm

I have only ever used stock bearings that come in my throws, I would love to try something new and different.

  15. Christopher Ahrens says

    June 20, 2016 at 6:55 pm

I am interested in this Pixel bearing due to the nature of this partnership, which at first sounds a bit odd but soon makes perfect sense! I’m excited to see the soul of CLYW and the precision of iYoYo’ German roots to coalesce into something amazing!
This is also compounded by the fact that the bearing’s design itself seems to be rather innovative and would probablylend itself fantastically to all styles of play.

  16. Anonymous says

    June 20, 2016 at 6:09 pm

I’d like one because I want to see how it compares to the DS bearings by YYR since they look quite similar.

  19. James says

    June 20, 2016 at 4:32 pm

I want one for my YYJ Revolution. The stock bearing makes too much noise.

  27. Jonas Nordhaug says

    June 20, 2016 at 12:36 pm

I don’t have much experience with “special” bearings.. So it would be a great thing to try out and experience ^^ New things are good, It can teach you something or maybe just give another feel to it completely. I’d love to have one

  28. Samuel says

  33. John says

    June 20, 2016 at 11:47 am

Looks like a quad shield, could have potential as the duals are considered top tier.

Want one in my attempt to find the ultimate bearing.

  38. Sam says

    June 20, 2016 at 9:47 am

The most important factor in a good bearing is the quality of the engineering. Considering both company involved, I’m sure this will be a great bearing!

  39. Gilbert says

    June 20, 2016 at 9:46 am

I’ve always wanted my own pixel bearing. It’s one of those things…

    Looks interesting!

I would very much so fancy a try at this bearing 🙂

  43. Josiah Koh says

    June 20, 2016 at 8:33 am

These new bearings sound awesome! I’d love to try them so that I can excel faster in learning to throw, and also to give you guys feedback on what I love about them or what could be improved. That way, these bearings can become even better, and throwing will be even more of a pleasure.

  44. Alex Solo says

    I had a bearing once.

  45. Paul Sargent says

  48. Pether Olsson says

    June 20, 2016 at 6:14 am

I would love to try out some 8-bit pixel bearing just to try a new type of bearing and compare it with the other type of bearings i already have.

  49. barend de wet Wet says

a bearing a day keeps the doctor away

  50. persson says

    June 20, 2016 at 5:15 am

I don’t see anything new. It is pretty much like a KonKave … and its limits (cross multiple string sections in the center).
In my opinion the best profile for bearings remains the central trac, with a central flat part to accommodate multiple string sections and side slides to keep away the cord from the response system

  51. Milen says

    June 20, 2016 at 5:09 am

Cause Pixel Bearing is awesome name!

  52. Quang Minh says

    June 20, 2016 at 3:41 am

  53. Ian Watanabe says

    June 20, 2016 at 3:00 am

I’m very intrigued by the shape of the bearing and with the reputations that both iYoYo and CLYW have for putting out good products, I can’t wait to try one when they release. I’m excited to see what both of these companies can produce when working together!

My friend of mine doesn’t have his own unresponsive bearing rather he is using the ( responsive ) slim yyj bearing for his competition throws …..

  55. William Woon says

    June 20, 2016 at 1:50 am

The question is not why do you want the Pixel bearing, the question is why would you not want the pixel bearing. To that question I say there is no reason not to want one. 😉

  56. Adrian Velez says

    June 20, 2016 at 1:43 am

A pixel bearing would be very nice to try out because I’m in need for more bearings.

  57. Clarence says

    Cause they look really nice

  58. Isaac Reyes says

    June 20, 2016 at 12:34 am

I would love one because i want experiment more in my yoyo style. I am relatively new at yoyoing, 1+ years, and haven’t found “me”. The description that you gave makes me feel like this bearing will alow me to experiment any spectrum of yoyoing and help me find “me”. Plus yoyos, clyw, and new technology ROCK!!!!

  64. art lanante says

My friend doesn’t have his own unresponsive bearing, and he couldn’t afford to buy one, he is always use a slim bearing from yyj ….

  65. Jeremy says

    June 19, 2016 at 10:27 pm

I like that the concept here isn’t just to simply center the string, it’s refreshing to see a new thought process applied to bearings. Can’t wait to try one out!

  66. Luke says

    June 19, 2016 at 10:23 pm

Would love to try them out!

  67. Deyee says

  68. Zach Smith says

    June 19, 2016 at 10:13 pm

  69. Art Lanante says

    June 19, 2016 at 10:06 pm

My friend doesn’t have his own unresponsive bearing, and he is always use a ( responsive ) slim bearing from yoyojam , it’s so sad that he couldn’t afford one……

  70. Abby says

    June 19, 2016 at 10:01 pm

I want one because I like the look of the bearings and the look of the logo.

  71. Alaa jwiehan says

    June 19, 2016 at 10:00 pm

    Well, just wanna try it

  72. Jeffrey Camloh says

    June 19, 2016 at 9:48 pm

I would love to have a pixel bearing because of my lack of experience in different bearing shapes. I own a few flat bearings, a konkave bearing, and a center track bearing, and each one provides a different feel for the yoyo. I would like to see how this combination of a konkave and center track shape affects the yoyo’s play on the string and its response. CLYW and iYOYO are both amazing companies, so a collaboration with them both should turn out great!

  73. Gabe Sanderson says

    June 19, 2016 at 9:43 pm

I want one because I am ill-funded, and lack quality bearings in my yoyos.

  74. Noah says

    June 19, 2016 at 9:40 pm

To be honest, it’s human nature to want shiny things that I don’t have. And this is both shiny and not in my possession. Thus, logically, I want it. 🙂

  75. alecto says

    June 19, 2016 at 9:29 pm

Ive been into design for years. This would be interesting to see if there is any performance increase with the shape.
And who doesn’t need new bearings..

  76. Owen Ekblad says

    June 19, 2016 at 9:25 pm

I want one because they look rad and I love the things Chris and Dave create!

  77. joseph brandon smith says

Love new stuff and could always use a better bearing in one of my favorite throws! !

  78. Remy says

Pixelated bearing sounds weird enough to me. I’d like to try one.

  79. Amun says

    June 19, 2016 at 8:43 pm

Wow, those look really interesting. Do you know what merrivale they’re made out of? Probably just stainless steel, but I’m curious.

This comment totally wasn’t just for the giveaway. What’re you talking about?
