Check out the Arhaus YoYo Gang’s audition for Denmark’s Got Talent! Seems like every year we get a fistful of yoyo players heading for one of the “_____ Got Talent” shows, and while I like these guys it doesn’t look like they put much work into their audition.
So, a few tips for any aspiring performers out there:
- Always be dressed better than your audience. This holds true for pretty much anything you could possibly do in front of a crowd, from yoyo shows to commencement speeches. It immediately elevates you and draws people’s attention towards you. It also shows that you respect your audience by making the extra effort for them.
- If the trick you are doing is so hard that you can’t look away from it, it’s probably too hard for the audience to understand. Keep it simple when you are performing for a non-player crowd! Big, simple, fast, flashy, and fun.
- Build a routine. Don’t just get up there and run through whatever tricks you know. Create a routine that fits the time you have allotted, and has a beginning, middle, and an end. Tell a story, take your audience on a journey.
Keep those three tips in mind and your audience will thank you for it!
