Archives for December 2015
Jace Briggs – 5Evil
There are three things that immediately caught my eye about this video.
- Someone actually released a 5A video. We get, what, like 6 of these a year now?
- Not only is this a 5A video, but it’s a 5A video with Swedish melodic death metal for music. ‘Sup, unicorn?
- It’s actually snowing somewhere. I live in Ohio and I’ve gotten exactly ZERO snow this year so far.
The tricks are pretty good, too. 😉 Thanks, Jace!
Yoyo used is the Monkeyfinger 2Evil.
LaMonte Patterson – After The Rain
LaMonte Patterson, the high-top fade behind Amplified Return Tops, is back with a new video! Been a while since we’ve heard from him, but it’s good to see his laid back style back on our screens.
Yoyo used is the Amplified Shout.
Noah Bachofen & Nehemiah Peterson – Merry Christmas, Mama
Hetero life mates Nehemiah Peterson and Noah Bachofen dropped a new video on Christmas Day! Plenty of solid tricks and silliness from both of them, just as it should be.
Yoyos used are round and spinny.
Ian Johnson & Shane Lubecker – Back From Uni
Ian Johnson and Shane Lubecker came home for Christmas break and put together a sweet video for us. ‘Tis the season, right? Solid tricks and concepts from both of them, as always.
From Ian:
Shane is back from the University of Kansas, and I am back from UCLA. We live about 40 minutes away from each other and were kicking it again when we looked at how long it’d been since we made a video. It was over 5 years, so we threw this together one night last week!
Yoyos used are the Recess Weekend and First Base.
Mimi Thian – 2015
Malaysia’s Mimi Thian gives up a few of her favorite tricks in one last video for the year. Thanks, Mimi!

Colin was recently named one of Cleveland’s “Most Interesting People of 2016” by Cleveland Magazine (check out the January issue for the feature), and he’s gearing up for a serious run at the 1A division at the 2016 World YoYo Contest. MatterHackers.com Hacker of the Month – Kyle Weems
Kyos Toys owner Kyle Weems was named “Hacker of the Month” over at MatterHackers.com, a website dedicated to the fast-growing maker movement. His work created custom printed & machined yoyos based on user-submitted designs seems to have caught their eye!
Our favorite part of the article?
They also intend on sponsoring the World Yo-Yo Contest in Cleveland in 2016, where they plan on setting up a makerspace to show people how 3D printing yo-yos works.
Yep. The 2016 World YoYo Contest will have a full makerspace, manned by Kyle Weems, Drew Tetz, and others with special sessions where players can learn about yoyo design, try their hand at designing their own, and then actually have that yoyo fabricated for them before they leave the contest. Sounds awesome, right? More details on that coming soon.
Head over to MatterHackers.com for the full article, and congrats to Kyle on some nice press!
Ed Haponik – EH 2015 Release
It’s that time again…another year, another glorious special edition wooden yoyo from SPYY x TMBR x YoYoExpert to celebrate everyone’s favorite fixie sage, Ed Haponik! Check out the latest video from Ed and a full description of the yoyo below. YoYoExpert still has a few in stock, but once they’re gone…they’re gone.
In 2012, SPYY team member Ed Haponik took a one year oath to play only a single fixed axle, wooden yo-yo. It was a custom design from SPYY who sponsored him at the time. He completed this goal as of 12/31/12 and documented his efforts on 365yoyotricks.com and in several of his clip videos. Ever since Ed has truly helped to inspire a resurgence in fixed axle play!
In 2015 things have changed. SPYY is no longer around has just re-entered the game with a new Titanium Yo-Yo and Ed is still throwing the best fixed axle tricks around via his Instagram page!
In hopes of continuing this amazing story we decided to approach Ed, SPYY, & TMBR. And again this year, all agreed the story and message behind this great yo-yo needs to live on. The legendary yo-yo he used, The EH, is now re-envisioned once again and available in a limited run.
This year, the limited EH is crafted from WHITE oak. This wood offers a beautiful tight grain that isn’t too porous with an excellent density and smoother feel to the touch. This newest version also comes with one of the coolest axle systems out there – The TMBR Wood Thread Axles! Hand carved by Colin Leland, you will not find anything else like these on the market! After spending some time with the new 2015 EH, Ed thinks it’s the perfect fixed axle yo-yo for tricks like stalls, kickflips, varials, and lunar landings!
The 2015 ‘EH’ is limited to 96 pieces and will not be reproduced. Each EH comes packaged with a special signed note from Ed and one side of the yo-yo features the EH logo engraved with the other left untouched to give it a simple clean look. Play Simply Our Friends!
