Iori Yamaki wins the 2015 Asia Pacific YoYo Championships!
What an incredible contest! The 2015 Asia-Pacific Yo-yo Championships comes to an end with an unbelievably high level of competition!
1A was especially tough, with some of the world’s best fighting for the title, but it was Iori Yamaki, with an amazing display of speed and skill who took the title, ahead of previous champion Ahmad Kharisma, and multiple time World Champion Hiroyuki Suzuki!
In 2A, the world’s greatest champion, Shinji Saito, was once again the winner, beating country-mate Shu Takada, and Hong Kong’s Liu Man Ki.
Even without the same amount of top level players, 3A was a close call, with Taiichiro Higashi beating Mizuki Takimoto by only one point before deducts! Thawhir Iqbal, from Singapore, finished third.
4A usually has a higher number of deducts, and AP this year was no exception, with deducts determining a few placings. This year’s Japan Nationals runner-up, Naoto Onishi, finished first, followed by Singapore’s Sean Hung, and China’s Zhao Chen.
Finally, in 5A, Naoya Takeuchi completed Japan’s clean sweep by beating Singapore’s own Ian Loh, and Yuttana Sukhumalchatsombat, from Thailand!

US National YoYo Contest Moves To Los Angeles
We’ve got big news! The rumor mill has been working overtime since word leaked out that the National YoYo League was working on (finally) moving the US Nationals out of Chico, California. Well now it’s official….the 2015 US National YoYo Contest will be held in Redondo Beach, part of the greater Los Angeles area in southern California.
A new website for the event is currently in the works and should be live by the end of next week. The NYYL began working on this new location when two former National YoYo Champions, Tyler Severance and Patrick Borgerding, approached the NYYL with a proposal for moving the event. The proposal was promising, and with the help of these two players the NYYL was able to secure finals and prelim venues and make this move official. This is great news for all Nationals competitors, as the new location is significantly easier and less expensive to travel to, not to mention the fact that now you’re in Los Angeles with plenty of other activities available that are not the sad, sketchy bar at the Holiday Inn.
Check out the official press release below from the NYYL.
This year marks significant advances in the National Yo-Yo Contest. Exciting changes are under way to better serve the expanding growth of a quickly evolving youth oriented sport.
Annually since 1993 (22 years) the Contest has been held in Chico, CA, home of the National Yo-Yo Museum. The Museum’s mission is to provide national exposure to the sport and encourage kids to learn to play with the Yo-Yo.
In 2002, the National Yo-Yo League was developed to attract new players, and provide a foundation to officiate and coordinate all yo-yo contests. The League will now enlarge it’s role and perpetuate support for the National Yo-Yo Contest. Commencing in 2015 the annual Contest will be held in a progression of metropolitan areas across the country, starting with the southern California city of Redondo Beach on September 25th & 26th.
This is a larger Contest venue, minutes from a large airport, and in one of the nations largest media markets, and it will enable a greater number of kids to be introduced to the sport and begin their rise in competitive play.
The National Yo-Yo Museum & League will continue to be based in Chico.
Andrew Maider – Orca Combo #7,235
Andrew Maider dropped this amazing combo last night to promote the Orca release. Considering how many Orcas sold last night, I’d say that means this combo is magical or something. One thing is for sure…that wind-defying bind at the end is unreal.

CLYW Presents: Palli – Solstice
We don’t get a lot of videos from Palli but holy crap, when he drops one it is really, really good! This is Palli’s official “farewell” to the Puffin 2, which is being retired today with one last batch hitting retailers tonight at 10 pm EST. (Design work has already started on the next version of the Puffin).
Neat fact about this is that during the summer solstice in Iceland there are only a couple hours of “night”. The sun goes down a little after midnight and comes back up just before 3 am. Crazy, right? A lot of this footage was shot around midnight in Iceland. Crazy.
