C3YoYoDesign Apparition – Tomas Bubak
C3YoYoDesign just announced a THIRD new signature yoyo being released at the 2014 World YoYo Contest…the Apparition, signature model for Tomas Bubak!
See what C3 had to say about the yoyo and check out the specs below.
Apparition is definitely the design out of C3’s comfort zone. New “Curve Straight” body design made Apparition become very easy to control. Players can change from front style to horizontal or even to 3D tricks only with a little push.
Also, we sand blasted the curve area of the body and added “CD-Pattern” engraving like Heartbeat to make it shine when doing horizontal tricks!!! Black Blue Purple, Sliver Purple Blue and Purple Blue Sliver, three colorways will be released in WYYC2014!!!
Tomáš will use Apparition on stage!!!

International Yo-Yo Championship – Day 1
Today was sure an exciting day at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney. When I first arrived at the venue I was absolutely blown away by the backdrop Duncan had put together. I’ve never seen anything like it for a yo-yo contest before. It was massive and covered the entire stage from top to bottom.
The day started off with an intro by the event’s emcees Mark Montgomery of One Drop Yo-Yos and Brett ‘Ooch’ Outchcunis of Yomega. Then next up was amazing demo by Team Hornet from Japan, made up of Mai Kurihara, Ryuya Kaneko and Taka Hasegawa. The demo included all styles of yo-yo play plus some very tricky unicycle tricks by Mai. Taka even knocked a quarter off of his own ear with a metal yo-yo! There was a Boys and Girls Club in the front row and they sure had a great time!
1A prelims started a little bit late in the afternoon, but it gave the players plenty of time to get ready for prelims and hang out with their friends who most only see a couple times a year. Having just had another kid in March, it’s made it hard for me to get out to as many contests as I did last year, so I really enjoyed the time to hang out with my friends and meet some new players.
Aside from a few hiccups with sound, 1A prelims went pretty smooth. Competition was tight though with over 30 players competing and only 6 able to advance into finals.
At the end of the day, the top 6 were: Michael Ferdico (76.4), Tylor Mccallumore (70.8), Ian Clark (67.3), Shane Lubeker (63.3), Ben Fiore (61.1), and Robbie Graham (60.4). Congrats guys! Here are the full results.
After 1A prelims was the Best Trick Contest, where $1750 in prizes was up for grabs. I think it is pretty safe to say that this was the first time that this much money was up for grabs in a Best Trick contest. Usually the standard is a yo-yo or a gift certificate to the Sizzler, so I was pretty excited to see this from Duncan. So much so that even I went up on stage to do my 3D Eli Hop to Brent Stole trick …
BUT it just wasn’t enough compared to these giants! David Molnar threw a crazy horizontal 5A combo that got him $250, Luis Enrique did his signature dancing side step combo to win $500 and Ben Conde landed his Flamingo trick that earned him the titled of IYYC Best Trick Champion as well as $1000. Well done gents and well done Duncan!
The Mickey Glove Challenge will continue tomorrow, but so far Graeme Steller is in the lead with a horizontal grind winder bind. Make sure to check out the YoYoNews Instagram account to like your favourite trick video. The player with who’s video receives the most likes on the end of the day on Saturday wins $100!
I’ve got to say that being at a yo-yo contest at Disney World has been pretty surreal. I’m really having a great time! Thank you Duncan for putting on this event and for inviting so many talented players from around the world to compete. I’m definitely looking forward to finals on Saturday.
