5A will always be the number one style for me. Even after Getting a scar above my eye from practicing a trick (Got it eventually) Definitely the style I’m most passionate about, now I just need a great yoyo to advance further. The Magnitude could definitely do that for me.

I didn’t love 5a until recently. My 1a had lost it’s spark for me and I wasn’t learning anything new. Then I started working on 5a and a whole new world opened up. That’s all I’ve been throwing for the past month and I can’t get enough of it.

  8. Jimena says

    June 6, 2014 at 10:31 am

Not many people realise this but 5A in fact joins up all the other styles of play into one. It develops the 1A style by lettinng you improve those tricks you already know and by making them even more complex but worthy of doing. For 2A it gets the tricks used there of loops and uses them but with the counterweight making it seem magical in a way. The idea of 3A of the difficulty and the two strings going everywhere as well as keeping an eye on two objects is shown again in this. You are keeping track of two moving objects constantly and having to be careful that these don’t mess up the trick by the strings doing a knot. Last but not least the thing about 4A of having a sense of freedom of the yoyo being thrown in the air is also achieved in 5A as you don’t in fact have the yoyo tied to your hand and you’re able to throw it and catch it which reunites that characteristic. 5A is a style which has the other styles in it that’s why I like it so much.

5A is AMAZING and is definetely a style I’m trying to improve on. Where I’m from Yo-Yoing isn’t very big, just a couple of us who are actually into it but hopefully it will catch on especially when people see how awesome, swag and hipster 5A is!.

    June 4, 2014 at 4:49 pm

It is a nice change of pace from 1a every once in a while, since it allows different trick opportunities.

But the best part is playing 5a out in public. People will ask, “Hey, why is that dice thing on the end of your string,” and I’ll say, “Because of THIS!” and then proceed to blow their mind with a 360. That feeling is so much fun.

  13. RyN says

    June 4, 2014 at 2:25 am

Being someone who mainly throws 1A, 5A is a refreshing way to yoyo. Along with adding a counterweight, there are so much different varieties of tricks that are possible.

Along with that it is fun to know that it was only introduce a little while ago and there is so much innovation taking place in this new style of play.

  22. Juliette O says

    June 3, 2014 at 1:54 pm

I love 5a simply because it’s unique and different. I love every style of yoyoing , but 5a is fast and furious and looks amazing to anyone watching. Adding the dice to the end of the yoyo opens up a door of endless possibilitys and creativeness that can be explored and used to create the most wicked of tricks. It takes an exorbitant amount of concentration to be able to watch both ends of the string and create a flawless smooth trick without getting any knots. I love the challenge 5a creates with my mind to test me everyday to come up with bigger and better tricks and that is why I continue to love 5a.

  23. JamesM says

    June 3, 2014 at 12:45 pm

I love 5a for two reasons: First it is so much easier to throw at work. My boss pops in a quick bind and I can look like I’m working. Second reason is my 8 month old loves watching my throw and seeing his face try while he is trying to watch the yoyo and counter weight is amazing.

When steve Brown created 5A, he changed yoyoing forever. He was the Orville Wright of yoyoing. he was the henry Ford. The Thomas Edison. The Albert Einstein.
He opened a door that allowed a whole new type of yoyoing. He made it possible to not be tied to a string and to let go and lt the yoyo fly. This, in ny opinion, was the most important discovery in yoyo history. Thank you steve Brown.

I love 5a because it is an outlet through which i can express my style in an innovative way. Because 5a is a less pursued style than 1a, and it has multiple facets for creating tricks it offers much more space for inventing and expressing ideas. When i get bored with 1a which is my main style 5a is my next option for playing yoyo. It is a strong right arm in my yoyoing career, which is why i love 5a

  35. Dao Tran says

Why do I love 5A? Hmm well I love 5A because I love to get hit with a rock hard dice, I love getting bruised from counterweight hits, I love breaking ceiling fans lights and I love to drop my expensive yoyos on the ground and let them get chewed up (then I grind on my arm). That is why I love 5A!

  42. Aaron Johns says

I love 5a because it surprises people. When I am throwing in public, I sometimes stick a counterweight on there, do some 1a tricks, then all of a sudden I throw the counterweight, and everyone’s like :O How did you do that! So fun.

  43. Fady says

    June 2, 2014 at 11:26 am

I like 5A a lot, because it’s kinda risky as the yoyo and the string are completely unattached to you and it opens up the door for a variety of tricks.

  44. Jared says

I like it pretty great. I’d love to be able to get into it more so that I can expand my mastery in yoyoing. Also, learning the tricks is also fun, because it gives me a new outlook on how to do yoyo tricks (coming from someone who does almost nothing BUT 1a. ) it’s a very interesting style that I like to mess around with and I plan on getting into it more and more. I do indeed LOVE 5A ๐Ÿ˜€ <3

5a give you the ultimate freedom of play. 5a us unique because it literally can use elements from all styles of play. 5a gives you many options to do complex body trick that swing around your legs and arms. Whenever I meet a dead end I allways come to 5a, many of my trick elements in 1a are inspired by 5a tricks, this can help create new exciting trick know one has seen before. In conclusion, I love 5a for its creativeness and diversity of tricks.

5a May has been great because of how many major players came together to make it happen. All the tutorials, interviews, trickcircle tags and promotions make it great, but the really great thing is how much I and others have progressed this month. If every month was dedicated to a particular style, or to even a specific trick component, that would be an invaluable resource for the community. After maybe 3 months there would be so much contribution, it would practically publish itself. Thanks so much for bringing it to the masses.

5a, Specifically Double Dice, has always been my go to style of throwing, It is a relaxing style of play that opened up an entire realm of new tricks for me when I became confined by the slipknot loop. I went through various transitions of throwing throughout the years of from the slippery eel, to moebius. into standard 5a, and then finally into double dice. Unbound from the basics and relearning to simply let go, the first trick I learned was an Aerial and it simply showed me that the dice never had to be confined to my hand, I was able to utilize the dice in a manor that was close to Poi spinning, and it became my favorite concept in the yoyo realm, then one day, inspiration came in the likeness of Iskandar Shah, an Amazing double dice player who destroyed everything I knew about incorporating the single die 5a style and added a new element of the play for me (Now I now he was not the first “Astro” player, but definitely my favorite throughout my research into the style) – I began my journey into double dice with frustration of that new element, and now the sliding die is second nature. This magnetude looks to be yet another realm of possibilities. I would love to own one and would love to see what could be done. ๐Ÿ™‚

As a poor college student, it can be hard to get the throws that can really up my game. That’s why I love these giveaways you have, it gives some hope that a person can have the opportunity to fully appreciate all of the styles of yoyo play available. Sob story aside, magnets bitch!

  105. Connor R says

    June 1, 2014 at 12:15 pm

5A is one of those types of yo-yoing that people can just relax and play. It is not really how difficult the trick you do, it is that when you hit it, it feels like you won a million dollars. When I first started 5A i new that it was going to be hard, but that i would have fun. That is why i love it so much today.

No matter how many times it causes me to scuff my yoyos I will still love 5a.

    In fact,

I’d catch a grenade for 5a (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Throw my hand on a blade for 5a (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I’d jump in front of a train for 5a (yeah, yeah, yeah)
You know I’d do anything for 5a (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Oh, I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through my brain
Yes, I would die for 5a, baby
But 5a won’t do the same

  107. Joe says

    June 1, 2014 at 11:14 am

I really like the fact that 5A adds a whole new set of coordination skills to throwing – for example keeping the counterweight moving on an arc while controlling the throw through a trick with the n.t.h. It’s pretty neat.
Best comment here though has to be Jake Elliot’s. Pretty tough to beat that, it really is a good effort!

I throw 1a for 10+ years, and I can create and do a new trick in a heartbeat it seems. The thing is that in 5a I have those moments where I do a trick for the whole day and it still isn’t smooth. I missed to have chalenges like this in yoyoing.
So the short answer is -because I suck in 5a-. And also Magnetude has some unique possibilities that I would like to see in action already.

  113. Roland says

I felt lost in 1A, I had OK tricks but nothing special. I’ve never been able to rank high at contests… So I started 5A just to see if I can achive something or create something unique, but hell no! I was really bad in 5A, I had no idea how to find out a good trick… I thought I’ve allready worn out, I was about to stop. One day I saw a video of Iskandar, I was like, WOW this is something I’ve never seen before. I’ve tried, I faild a lot of times but DD was the first type of yoyoing which made me want to continue playing even when I feel like crap! I know it’s not the regular 5A stuff, but that’s why I’m still part of this great community ๐Ÿ˜‰

5a is the coolest style in yoyoing. Zero doubt. I mean, even if I’m not good in this style I can feel the freedom of playing with a yoyo that spins not connected to my hand as in 1a 2a 3a (4a hasn’t the string connected), and this doesn’t mean that you haven’t control on your moves: your tricks can reach another level, another grade of freedom! and would you forgot the freestyle of David molnar during eyyc2014?!?! it’s one of the most breathtaking things I’ve ever seen! definitely 5a is the coolest style! no doubt!

  137. Noel Kunz says

    June 1, 2014 at 12:58 am

Here’s why I love 5A. Freedom. Freedom to let go, freedom to take a trick and just add an extra element to it. I love 5A because it makes me want to break the rules, much like the original mentality for when it hit the community at first. It makes me think about tricks differently, makes me actually admire the bruises I get on my knuckles, and find myself in awe when I land something so amazing. 5A is an extension of who I strive to be. It makes me want to be a better player. I mean, what other style gives you the creative mind to look in a store and think “that item could make a cool counterweight.”?! 5A can.

Also, it is the only style I’ve played that hasn’t hit me in the groin (yet).

  141. Carson Wolf says

    June 1, 2014 at 12:18 am

5A and me have always had a love hate relationship. when I first started yoyoing I played using a counterweight not because I was interested in doing 5A tricks but because as a noob tension was really hard to get out and a counterweight made it easier. as I got better the necessity for using the counterweight to fix tension was less necessary and the fact that the yoyo would come out of my hand and break things did not help, so I took alot of time off from 5A. today I have learn to love 5A. I feel like my whole body is in the trick when I do 5A tricks. everything about 5A has made it my favorite style from the options opened with the counterweight to the throwers involved like Tyler Severance and Jake Elliott.

5A creates so many more opportunities. The counterweight allows much more involvement of the non-throwhand without requiring quite the level of dexterity as is needed with 3A. It also creates a great contrast in many flourishes for the counterweights are often going in opposite or complementary motions to the yoyo. Finally, it lets the yoyo become much more free to the point where it is sometimes becoming close to 4A. 5A is the ultimate combination of 1A, 3A and 4A; hence, it also presents a unique and splendid challenge.
