YoYoFactory has given us a partial unveiling of their Pulsar Collection, which will have its first release this weekend at Japan Nationals on May 3rd & 4th. Featuring a yoyo string remix of the iconic Joy Division cover art for the album “Unknown Pleasures“.
The collection includes the Shutter, the OneStar, the Superstar, and the new 2014 Genesis. All four models feature the Pulsar/String artwork, although the Superstar is the only one that comes in a color other than black. And as a nice touch, it actually looks like the Superstar comes in a blue color that references the Scientific American article showing the pulsar waves, published in 1971. The new Genesis’ most striking featuring is a stainless steel weight right, added in just below the step in the inner gap of the yoyo.
This new collection is super limited, although we haven’t gotten confirmation of full numbers for each model yet. We have heard that the 2014 Genesis will be limited to 50 – 60 pieces and retail for $130+, although that’s unconfirmed. We do have full specs for the new Genesis, though, and a review on the way!
YoYoFactory 2014 Genesis Specs:
Diameter: 56.40 mm
Width: 41.73 mm
Gap Width: 4.69 mm
Weight: 67.6 grams
Bearing: Size C (.250 x .500 x .187)
Response: 19mm Slim Pad
Material: Aluminum w/ Stainless Steel Weight Ring
5.6mm gap that’s the most colossal gap I’ve seen in a yoyo
I’m not sure how that gap measurement was taken but it can’t be right since that’s more than the width of the bearing.
Steve Brown says
Ugh…typo! Corrected. The gap is really wide, but not *that* wide.
Well that settles it then. I’ll take ALL OF THEM. *gets out wallet*
Is that Bi-metal I see on the Genesis, or simply a raw strip? :O
Steve Brown says
It’s a stainless steel weight ring. Sorry, that should have been in the article. Fixed!
