Harvey Lowe’s Valuable Hands

March 7, 2014 By Steve Brown

Remember that amazing human being named Harvey Lowe that we told you about? Well, the Special Risks Bureau in the UK just published a hilarious infographic showing off all of the most expensively insured body parts in the world, combined, and of course Harvey made the list.

For those of you who don’t know, as part of a publicity stunt way back in the day, after Harvey was named the 1932 World YoYo Champion his sponsor company had his hands insured for £91,000. Which is supremely awesome.

Click to embiggen the image and see that while Harvey’s hands were insured by Lloyd’s of London for the lowest amount on this list, the combination of Gene Simmon’s KISS makeup, Rod Stewart’s hair, and a yoyo is quite possibly one of the best things we’ve ever seen on the internet.

Besides this, of course.

Utah State YoYo Contest Announced

March 7, 2014 By Steve Brown

Utah State YoYo Contest

We just got this press release from the Utah State YoYo Contest, announcing the first event in 15 years! To be held on April 26th in Salt Lake City, the contest was founded in 1989 by National Grand Master Dale Myrberg, but has been on hiatus for a while. Looks like Duncan Crew’s Jeff Coons is stepping up to help Dale run it…here’s hoping it’s a great event!

Hello all!

We are very excited and proud to officially announce the Utah State YoYo Contest 2014. This is the first time that the contest has been held in 15 years. It will be a full contest with divisions for players of all skill levels. As an added bonus, the highest placing player of the 1A Championship Division from Utah will be deemed State Champion and will be seeded to 1A Finals at the Central Pacific Regional (aka Bay Area Classic) YoYo Contest!

Currently, we are in negotiations for finalizing the judge roster, but we have confirmed that National Trick Innovator of the Year and former National YoYo Champion Zach Gormley will be among them. We’re very excited to bring Zach to Utah to add a professional judging standard and a world-class performance to the contest. Other judges will be announced pending confirmation.

More and more sponsors will be signing on as the days go by, so don’t forget to check out that section of the site and support the companies that support our community.

Registration for the contest is now officially open! We ask you to register as soon as possible to give us an idea of how many competitors to expect. If you are interested in getting involved in the contest, but do not want to compete, please consider donating or volunteering. More information about all of those things can be found on the website.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please get in touch via the contact form on the website. We will do our best to respond to you in a timely manner.

Thanks for your time and we hope to see you at the contest!

C3YoYoDesign Presents: Dávid Molnár x YoYo Store Rewind

March 7, 2014 By Steve Brown

C3YoYoDesign and Rewind YoYo Store dropped a new video to promote the Dymension, the signature model of 2011 & 2014 European 5A Champion Dávid Molnár!

The Dymension was designed to Dávid’s specs…a hybrid of the Dark Sonic and Mo-vitation with a tremendous amount of rim weight for long spins and stability on horizontal tricks. I got a chance to try a Dymension during EYYC, and it’s a tremendous throw for 1A and 5A…as Dávid proves in this video.
