The long-awaited signature model yoyo of Spencer Berry is almost here, and we’ve got a video to prove it.
Spencer, Blake Freeman, and Robbie Graham took some time to throw some production samples around and generally flaunt their awesomeness. If this doesn’t look like the most fun yoyo ever, you need to re-think your priorities.

Coleman Weimer and Harrison Lee hung out, got some Five Guys, and had a good time banging out some beautiful yoyo tricks and hucking kendamas around. Looks like a really good day.
We had over 600 entries for the CLYW Bip Bop Cliff Giveaway…thanks so much to everyone who entered! The creativity on display was amazing! What started as kind of a personal favorite for us turned into a validation that picture tricks are alive and well in modern yoyoing.
The judges for the contest were Chris Mikulin (CLYW), John W. Robot (CLYW) and me, Steve Brown (YoYoNews). And here are your winners!
Malcolm had 15 entries into the contest and at least half of them could have won. The complexity and density of his various star variations is incredible, but this one was our favorite! Malcolm wins the grand prize, a CLYW Bip Bop Cliff, 100 Kitty Strings, and a CLYW Sticker Pack.
Drew has been a long-time picture trick aficionado, and the simple sweetness of his tricks tends to carefully hide their complexity and creativity. Plus: no one ever looks like they’re having as much fun as Drew! Drew wins the second prize, a CLYW 5-panel camouflage cap, 100 Kitty Strings, and a CLYW Sticker Pack.
Stas had a handful of unique and creative entries, but his “Birdie in a Cage” was everything we love about picture tricks. A simple concept executed really, really well, “Birdie in a Cage” is just a really pretty trick that takes an old favorite and makes it new again. Stas wins the third prize, 100 Kitty Strings and a CLYW Sticker Pack.
May 1st marks two years of throwing for Cleveland YoYo Club member Colin Beckford, and his new video shows how far he’s come. Colin is a great talent, and it’s been a pleasure to watch his steady improvement. Congrats on your two years, Colin, and here’s looking forward to the next ten!
Xopo Daniel Pérez from the Cross Kens Gang just dropped this amazing 4-trick video and every trick in here looks terrifyingly difficult.

Shu Takada absolutely destroyed it with this 2-minute finals freestyle from the 2013 Hamamatsu YoYo Contest. Amazing!
Mateusz Ganc, aka Gacek, just dropped this new video in support of his signature edition ONE yoyo from the YoYoFactory Champions Collection. Solid and full of style, as you’ve come to expect from Gacek.
Another Cabin Tutorial from CLYW and Charles Haycock. Not sure what’s more impressive…the trick, or that he can get away with arm moves wearing such a huge flannel shirt.
CLYW found a never-released Charles Haycock video in the vaults and uploaded it to the LSFC YouTube channel…enjoy!

Also notable from the event was the announcement that World YoYo Champion John Narum has officially resigned from offstring yoyo competition…and that he will be taking over running the Minnesota State YoYo Contest. Big news…congratulations, John!

This proof of concept video for PanGottic’s “Logic of Nothing” show is sheer brilliance. They spent their second R&D period at Prema Arts Centre a couple of weeks ago, focusing on the circus aspect of the show and exploring ways of interacting and combining the circus skills and contraptions. Joe Clarke came along on the last day and, has again, put together a brilliant video.
Welcome to the world of Oscar Boffin; a slightly obsessive compulsive hoarder, inventor and a man who has filled his home with gadgets and contraptions, to make his life easier (or harder, depending on how well they work).
Logic of Nothing is a Heath Robinson/Rube Goldberg inspired piece of non-verbal Circus-Theatre. An exploration into a relationship between man, circus and contraption using a blend of clown, juggling, magic and invention, all set to a unique live soundtrack of sounds and samples taken from the contraptions themselves.
The show premiers at Circomedia in Bristol in October 2013.
Somewhere in Tokyo, Shinji Saito is still an amazing yoyo player. His crazy slack Jamaican Flag move at 0:10 is simple and elegant and completely original…another great example of the natural genius and flow of Shinji’s yoyo play.

I’ve made up hundreds of tricks, but I still have no idea which ones people are going to get excited about. For some reason, this one got a lot of praise. Still no idea why.

An experiment in minimalism…what are the simplest components you can create something new from? I chose Trapeze and a Split Bottom Mount. Turned out nice, I think.
And Rafael Matsunaga wraps things up with a benchmark trick in the history of counterweight play, the One-Handed Helicopter. Still beautiful, still really damn hard.
