First Look – Japan Technology Aire

September 30, 2016 By Steve Brown

Japan Technology Aire offstring yoyo

Japan Technology has revealed the new signature offstring yoyo for Bryan Figueroa, the Aire! Check out specs and details from Japan Technology below. It looks pretty amazing…can’t wait to try one!

The Signature model of Bryan Figueroa, who has many titles, is AIRE.

AIRE is a Bryan Figueroa style remake from JT’s first model Kamui. It contains the characteristics of the past JT models.

It certainly has the high quality basic performance, and also, this model’s strength is the bounce ability when it drops on the floor. JT had been dealing with this problem for a long time. We used to think that thinning the wings was the only solution. It bounces back high when it drops on the carpet. However, players have to play gently on hard floor because the wings are thin and weak. Also, its spinning force is not strong enough because the wings are light, so some players avoid using this model. AIRE solved this problem with its recovery skill.

On soft floor, it bounces back to a player while making a circular orbit. On hard floor, it bounces back straight to a player. This was made possible by combining four points in its design.

Inheritance, evolution, and fusion made it possible for Kamui’s successor, AIRE, with a new body and the ability to revolutionize.

Japan Technology Aire Specs:

Diameter: 78.0mm
Width: 58.5mm
Weight: 75.2g
Bearing: Size C (Flat)
Pad : JT Pad(Large)
Suggested Retail: ¥16,800 / $165 USD

First Look – Radical Seas Oracle

April 12, 2016 By Johnny Le

Radical Seas Oracle

Rising from the depths of the dark ocean, Radical Seas has given us a first look of their latest yoyo, the Oracle! With bi-metal designs flooding the market, Radical Seas wanted to approach their newest design in a unique way by producing it with either brass or copper ring. Check out full specs below, and keep an eye on the Radical Seas’ Facebook and Instagram pages for more details.

The oracle was a copper bimetal idea, deciding to sub out different metals to show character of materials. The final design ended with a flush pressed ring that varied in material, restated design aesthetics and made the cup standout. The finish is a light beadblasting with 180 mesh media. The densities of the metal play a big factor in individual performance of each model, it’s pretty cool to feel

Radical Seas Oracle Specs:

Diameter: 55.4 mm
Width: 43.4 mm
Weight: 66.6-67 grams (based on rings)
Gap: 4.4 mm
Bearing: Size C
Response: 19mm slim pads

YoYo Drop – iYoYo HiDra

February 3, 2016 By Johnny Le

iYoYo HiDra group photo

Germany based yoyo company, iYoYo, unveiled their newest model, HiDra, which is a collaboration between them and an American yoyoer, Ze’ev Yehuda. After reviewing multiple yoyo CAD designs Ze’ev made, iYoYo knew they just had to team up with him.

We believe the YoYo community has far more talent than just creating awesome tricks. Ze’ev Yehuda, US student and yoyo player, has one of these. He has literally created dozens of cool looking CAD yo-yo designs in his spare time. When we discovered one particular one, we knew we had to get it produced. We got in touch with Ze’ev to see if he wants to see his vision become a product. We prototyped it, tweaked it and we are blown away by how well it plays. Think of a relaxing, solid and stable throw for everyday. We can’t wait [to see] tricks the community is going to throw with it!

Available from their site and select retailers worldwide on February 4th, the HiDra is set to retail for only $54.99 USD.

Weight: 67.0g

YoYo Drop – 2Sickyoyos Knight

November 28, 2015 By Johnny Le

2Sickyoyos Knight

2Sickyoyos joins in the bi-metal trend and announced their first bi-metal yoyo, the Knight. The Knight will be released at YoYoExpert and 2Sickyoyos on December 1st. Check out 2Sickyoyos’ announcement and full specs down below!

When it came to designing the Knight, I wanted to do something different than what is already available. So with some very intricate design work I have created a truly unique looking and playing Yoyo. A lot of work and time designing has gone into this yoyo and I’m sure it will show.

The Knight is a competition ready Bimetal design. It features a truly unique and first of it’s kind aluminum body/ stainless steel ring design. Unlike the other bimetal yoyos coming out with a ring on the rim or on the inside of the cup, the Knights ring is actually an indented ring that is fitted in the rim of the aluminum body.

This is a bimetal design that is made to slay competition. The power of spin to weight ratio is spot on which allows for long spin times. The Knight is full sized, wide, and light. The indented ring also gives this an insane amount of stability and keeps the yoyo in plane very well.

It features a very nice angular V shape that gives it a modern look. The cup features our 2sick ring that is known in our designs. It gives a ledge that helps guide fingerspins. The shape and cup both allow for the Knight to excel at all the different types of grinds. Features a C bearings and 19mm response. The gap is very large which allows for multiple string segments without being snaggy.

2SickYoYos Knight Specs:

Diameter: 56 mm
Width: 44 mm
Gap: 4.35mm
Weight: 63 grams
Bearing: Center Trac, Size C
Response: Red Silicone Pad
Price: $150

SPYY Titanium TYY YoYo Release

November 7, 2015 By Steve Brown

It’s always great when an old friend comes back to visit. When we last saw Steve Buffel he was closing up shop for SPYY to spend more time with his family and less time staying up until the wee hours of the night running an amazingly high quality yoyo company. Looks like he just couldn’t stay away, though! He caught the bug, and had to make his contribution to the Year of Titanium™!

Why titanium?  Why now?  It came down to me missing the community, yoyo friends, contests and wanting to somehow explore titanium as a way to re-engage myself.  There’s been a big hole left in my life after closing SPYY.  I guess the hangover of running the business has somewhat subsided and I wanted to get back in touch with the things that inspired me to run my own yoyo business in the first place.

The development of this design became the ultimate SPYY hybrid of sorts.  I looked at my favorites and infused elements of each into this super fun and high performing yoyo.  Titanium is a seductive, yet sinister alloy!  The temptation is to exploit every bit of strength and thin down the walls to a mere fraction of that of an aluminum yoyo, pushing all the weight to the rim.  After countless CAD studies and trials I came to the conclusion that one could make a yoyo spin forever, but at what cost?  I tweaked and tweaked the geometry over and over to exploit the benefits of added rim weight, while not getting greedy and going overboard.  A heavy hand with rim weighting can easily result in a sluggish feel with excessive kickback… that uninspiring rock on a string feeling.  My hope is that I struck the ultimate balance between precision, float, spin and fun!

Manufacturing this yoyo became more of a challenge that anticipated for myself, our CNC programmers and machine operators.  This stuff is pure EVIL!  Titanium pushes back hard, wears out carbide inserts and kills tools with an explosive bang and sparks!  SPYY has produced over 20,000 aluminum yoyo halves with the same tooling and inserts. Aluminum is THAT forgiving.  Titanium burns them up every ten pieces or less!  We’ve had to regroup several times during this process in an attempt to tame the evil alloy sometimes referred to as “unobtainium”. That being said, the finished product is stunning to look at, hold and feel, while playing like nothing SPYY’s ever produced before!

This release is officially designated as TYY-01 and is limited to around 150 pieces.  This may be it for SPYY’s adventures in titanium. The cost and time required to produce them was staggering, possibly making it suicide to consider doing it again.  We’ll see how this release is accepted by our community.

Watch eBay account saturnprecision spyy.bigcartel.com Sunday, November 8th at noon EST for the official release.

$300 USD ($400 CAD), shipping included.

Alloy: Titanium
Mass: 65.5 grams
Diameter: 56.5mm
Width: 41 mm
Gap: 4mm
Bearing: Large C Dif-e-Yo KonKave
Responce: CBC 19mm Slim Pads

SPYY Returns….with titanium

October 4, 2015 By Steve Brown

SPYY Titanium yoyo

As the Summer of Titanium™ comes to a close, we’ve got one more model sneaking in under the wire and I think it’s safe to say that none of us saw this coming.

SPYY has returned with a titanium yoyo.

That’s right, the defunct Canadian manufacturer, long known for their impeccable quality, is back for one last gasp with a brand new design in titanium. Is this a return of the company? No, says owner Steve Buffel, just a hell of a cool one-off project to fill the time. Steve has been teasing this out for a while now, but this is our first look at the full, completed yoyo.

The Summer of Titanium™ has played out well beyond the possible dreams of any yoyo player or collector. For those of you who haven’t been keeping track, we’ve had the YoYoFactory Dream, three versions of the Luftverk Evora, One Drop Citizen, iYoYo TIger, Something Anglam TISS, Something Anglam Zero, Yoyorecreation Seventh Heaven, Ti-Yo, and now…this.

No word yet on specs or release date, but it’s safe to assume we’ll see these in stores before the end of the year.

One Drop Rebirth

October 1, 2015 By Steve Brown

Ryosuke Kawamura’s new signature model from One Drop YoYos, the Rebirth, is hitting retailers soon. Check out the full press release and specs below!

The Rebirth is the signature yoyo of One Drop team player Ryosuke Kawamura.

Ryosuke was the first player to join our team from Japan and he has been an amazing ambassador for yo-yoing. He is consistently promoting yo-yo players in Japan to the rest of the world and at the same time representing One Drop in the highest caliber. We are so proud and fortunate to have him on our team and it is time for a signature yo-yo.

Ryosuke is a huge of fan of the One Drop classic yo-yos (Project and Project 2). When we asked him what he wanted for a signature yo-yo he came up with the design and concept of the Rebirth which is an updated modern version of the Projects.

Back in the days of the Project, a 50mm diameter was considered
“normal” size. Nowadays that is considered “undersized”. To bring the Rebirth back to a “normal” range, the diameter is 53mm. Although the nut capture axle system of the Project was our innovation and is now seen as iconic, the Rebirth comes with the much improved Side Effect axle system (ships with Ultra Lights). To widen the catch zone a “friction reducing bump” was added at the transition to the guts (a common feature seen on newer yo-yos like the Markmont Classic).

Combine all this together and you get a stylish, highly performing
modern yo-yo that has the look and feel of the classic Projects with the flat rims and the Projection Profile in the catch zone. Let the Rebirth begin.

One Drop Rebirth specs:

Weight: 66.15 grams (with Ultra Light Side Effects)
Width: 43 mm
Diameter: 53 mm
Response: One Drop Flow Groove
Gap Width: 4.32 mm
Bearing Size: Large / Size C stainless steel 10 Ball Bearing

YoYo Drop – One Drop Citizen

July 24, 2015 By Steve Brown

One Drop Citizen

The summer of titanium continues! First we had the massive crowdfunding success of the YoYoFactory Titanium Dream, then we got the Luftverk Evora, and now we finally have full specs and release details for the One Drop Citizen! Check out One Drop’s press release and full specs below. Sound off in the comments…what do you think about this wave of titanium releases? What have you picked up so far? Are you going to get one of these?

In 2010 we released our first titanium yo-yo, the Sovereign. Five years later we have tackled this amazing metal and produced a yo-yo that we feel is our best work to date: The Citizen

A lot has changed in these 5 years. Yo-yos tend to be bigger than they used to be and high walls have gone by the wayside. As an industry and as a community we have all figured out what shapes, weights and weight distributions work better. As a yo-yo manufacturer we have improved our knowledge, skills and equipment an immense amount. All of these improvements played a role in the creation of the Citizen.

Titanium allowed us to take this shape and create a weight distribution simply not possible in aluminum; moving material to the rim while reducing overall weight. This gives it a light airy feel with incredibly long spin times.

Each Citizen was made with many hours of labor, love, and attention right here in-house in Eugene, Oregon, USA. Every single minute of machining was monitored, measured and scrutinized. Every half was hand polished. They have been checked, and re-checked. We could not have put more effort into assuring these were the most amazing yo-yos we could possibly make. There are one hundred and seventeen numbered Citizens in this run (there will not be another run).

One Drop Citizen Specs:

Weight: 64.5 grams
Diameter: 56.7 mm
Width: 43.6 mm
Gap Width: 4.4 mm
Stock Response: 19mm Slim Flow Groove
Bearing Size: Large (C) stainless steel (One Drop 10 Ball Bearing)
Axle System: Tapped
Alloy: Titanium Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5)
Release Date: August 7th, 2015
Price: $295
