YoYoNews has your first look at the newest plastic yoyo by industry leader YoYoFactory…the Hubstack Afterglow!
The Hubstack is a new plastic yoyo from YoYoFactory featuring a new body shape that appears to be modeled slightly after their wildly popular Shutter yoyo released last year. The Hubstack features a refined version of the “zero wall” design that YoYoFactory pioneered several years ago, and the Afterglow version comes in glow in the dark plastic with an internal LED light board. The yoyo lights up when it spins, and the light from the LEDs charges the glow plastic, making for a fantastic effect in the dark that basically recharges itself.
The Hubstack Afterglow is the final release in the YoYoFactory Glow Collection and the first release of the Hubstack yoyo, which will be released in a non-glow, non-lighted version later this year. The Hubstack Afterglow is shipping to stores soon, and has a release date of January 27th, 2014. Also released at the same time will be a redesigned version of YoYoFactory’s CzechMate yoyo (signature model for European Champion Vashek Kroutil) with changes to size, weight distribution, and price.

We’ve got freestyle video from some of the top winners of the 1A division at the2013 Czech National YoYo Contest…the crowd was going NUTS for these players and at times they completely drowned out the music. Amazing! Still looking for video from the other divisions…hit us with a link if you see it uploaded anywhere!

I don’t speak a lick of Czech, but I’ll watch pretty much anything with Ann Connolly and Vashek Kroutil. Seriously, if they released a video of the two of them grocery shopping, I’d post it.
Vashek Kroutil, the undisputed king of the Czech contest scene, drops a great video in support of the new YoYoFactory Shutter. I wish I spoke Czech because I’m pretty sure the first 40 seconds is hilarious, but I’m pretty content with the 40 seconds of play that follows.
Vashek Kroutil playing June edition of Czech Mate by Yoyofactory in Prague streets close to SLUSNY yoyo shop. Thanks to Petr Kavka for shooting the video.
Expats.cz posted a nice “outsider view” of the yoyo scene in Prague…definitely worth the read!
While yo-yos can typically be found in hobby shops alongside juggling pins and frisbees, it is incredibly rare, even in a major city, to find a store that exclusively sells yo-yos. Slusny and the Yo-Yo Store are not just Prague’s only brick-and-mortar yo-yo stores, but the only ones in Europe.
Located on either side of the Vlatva river, the shops are rivals—the Montagues and Capulets of yo-yo, but without the messy violence. Both stores opened up around the same time in 2010—first the Yo-Yo Store, and then four months later, the Slusny store. Also, both are sponsored by rival yo-yo manufacturers—the Yo-Yo store by Duncan, Slusny by YoYoFactory. “The kids take the rivalry more seriously than the owners,” says Hank Freeman, an American Yo-Yo champion living in the city. “It’s not like West Side Story, though.”

YoYoFactory has added a new Czech player to their much-vaunted Protége team, Matouš Tomeš! This promising 14-year old has won the last two contests he entered, and has shown great style and creativity in his short time throwing. Matouš will be mentored by multi-time Czech National YoYo Champion, Vashek Kroutil.
We tried to run the video description through Google Translate and ended up with this:
“30.4 rag held in Prague, where, of course, almost traditionally, lacked a decent stand. Could you take a Vashek curled, Robert Kucera, David Kreibich, Matthew Tomes and Petr Kavka. We showed a few exhibiček and learned some basic tricks.”
We’re not entirely sure what that means, but this video has great tricks, people having lots of fun, and we’re not sure but it looks like Vashek got married. Enjoy!
YoYoFactory just dropped a quickie video shot at their European offices featuring Vashek, Gacek, and Kojo putting the new CzechMate yoyo through some tricks.
Made in the USA, launched in Japan, and hanging out in Europe…the CzechMate gets around.
