This video has almost everything I love: Shingo Terada, 5A, and a yoyo designed by Sonny Patrick. If it was filmed in a bar and had music by LCD Soundsystem I would pack up this blog and quit right now. But it’s pretty close to perfect…enjoy!

Ryosuke Kawamura just totally made my week!
Shingo Terada remains one of my favorite 5A players of all time, and he was a HUGE early influence on the entire style of play. His 5A repeaters remain some of the hardest to pull of smoothly, as he reminded me last time I was in Japan when after an hour of struggling neither Petr Kavka nor I could do any of them.
Shingo Terada is still my go-to player when people ask me how to smooth out their yoyo play, and it’s exciting that he’s not only still competing (and doing well), but that he’s been practicing for 2015 Worlds!
Return top used is the CLYW Wooly Marmot 2.
In a brief post on his Facebook page, Shingo “Terry” Terada announced his resignation from Duncan Crew after 12 years on the team.
Dec.23 2014, I leave Duncan Crew.
I don’t compete contests for a long time. it was not good for me and Duncan.
…
Still love Duncan yo-yo and Duncan Crew family. So I leave the Crew.
Thank you for all support from Duncan Toys. Thank you…
In addition to the 2001 World Title in the X Division, Terry also won UTYJ (Japan Nationals) in 2001 and 2002, always with unmatched elegance in both 4A and 5A.
In a time when 4A yo-yos were thinner than today’s 1A average, his technique was flawless.
5A play also owes immensely to Terry’s innovations, such as e-fans and beestings, which allowed counterweight play to move from its experimental roots to an established yo-yo division.
See you around, Terry!
The 2012 Japan Yo-yo League officially started last weekend with the East Japan A Block Contest in Tokyo!
EJ has traditionally been a very strong regional contest, with the main Japanese competitors taking part. This year the contest was divided into two blocks, A and B. Block B will be held in Ichikawa City, in February.
In the A Block, Yoyojam’s prodigy and 5A World Champion Takeshi Matsuura surprised onlookers by winning the 1A division, ahead of YoyoRecreation’s Takahiro Iizuka, in 3rd, and Kento Noda, in 2nd. Is Takeshi Matsuura, who has won Japan Nationals in both 3A and 5A before, now aiming for the 1A title as well? Also worth noting is that 1A was the only division Takeshi competed in at EJ-A.
The winners in the other divisions were veteran Shuhei Kanai in 2A, Ken Takabayashi in 3A, Youhei Kagawa in 4A and Sora Ishikawa in 5A. Ishikawa was also the winner of the 44CLASH KIKSTYO Battle Tournament last month, and should be a contender for the Japanese title. 5A runner-up was Duncan Crew’s Shingo “Terry” Terada, who is still competing after more than 10 years in the scene!
The league continues next year with more regional contests throughout the country and finally the national contest:
