Monkeyfinger & G-Squared have announced a new collaborative design, named the “Co-Lab”. Based on Monkeyfinger’s Ape-X and G-Squared’s Triton, the Co-Lab will be released first at the 2014 California State YoYo Contest at an early release price of $100. Full production will be in stores shortly after, and will run $110 – $130.
***UPDATE***
Production has been delayed, and these will NOT be available for sale at California States. Here’s the word from Monkeyfinger:
Fans and Friends: While we were boxing up the new Co-Lab project, a manufacturing flaw was found that would shorten product play life. As yo-yoers ourselves, MFD and G2’s would never release a product with a known defect. Our Integrity and commitment to our fans prevents us from passing a flaw’ed yoyo to you, the community. While Chris Allen will have a few prototypes you can try at Cal States, the Co-Lab will not be for sale and the retail run will be delayed as we re-work the production phase.

Another solid tutorial from Aaron Davis…this trick is so good! I’ve got a weakness for a good repeater for sure, and this one fits the bill…easy to understand, something that lends itself well to smooth, continuous reps, and you can do it while staring blankly at the camera and drooling just a little.

Aaron Davis dropped a tutorial for the folks at Terra YoYo Tutorials, this one for an exquisitely complicated trick called “Swing for 160”. The top-down shot really helps a lot here, and there are a ton of elements in here that should serve as a springboard for plenty of original material. Definitely worth learning this…great job, Aaron! G Squared’s new yoyo, the Quake, should be hitting retailers in the next week or so. Retailing for $99 – $110 (depending on color), the Quake is the fourth release from G Squared and the first to use their new response pads, called “G Grips”. These new pads are made for G Squared by the Square Wheels YoYo Company, and are a slightly thinner pad than CLYW Snow Tires (by about .37mm), although the inner and outer diameter are about the same. Kind of a strange move for a young company with only a few models on the market to go with a custom sized response pad, but their previous models all suffered from loose binds, so hopefully this new pad solves the problem! They also refer to this as “slightly undersized”, although with a 53mm diameter it’s more of a mid-size yoyo…undersized yoyos generally start at 50mm diameter while most full-sized yoyos start around 56mm. Full specs and press release below, and these are expected to hit retailers on September 27th.
The Quake is a yoyo that we have been working on since since the release of the Triton. Players have started to express concerns that a majority of new releases have been full and oversized. We wanted the Quake to be something to fill that void. We didn’t just want to make a pocket yoyo. We strived to create something smaller but something that was still competition ready. The Quake is slightly undersized with a Diameter of 53.22mm. The Quake was also designed to play fast. Something we have not specifically focused on before, you don’t see it with any of the prior G Squared releases. The Quake was a challenge for us to get right. The original prototype had a slight vibe and did not have the stability we wanted. Mainly changing the weight distribution and wall the production run is exactly what we wanted, a fast smaller yoyo with good stability and the doesn’t feel heavy. The Quake is also the first yoyo from G Squared to come with pads, replacing our flowable silicone. The G Grips will fit in all G Squared yoyos though!

We’ve got a new video from G-Squared team member Jesse Christe. Jesse is quickly becoming a favorite around here, and he’s got some really nice ideas about trick construction. He’s really been progressing as a player and it’s great to see him throw.

G-Squared is releasing their newest model, the G-Squared Triton, at select retailers on April 12th.
For this release they wanted a full-sized yoyo that played fast and stable with a comfortable, organic shape. Jacob Gross, the owner of G-Squared, personally likes incorporating grinds into his tricks, so he added the grooves in the catch zone to allow for better grind time than a bead blast finish. The wide catch zone and wide open cup are intended to make it easier to hit horizontal tricks and finger spins, and the G-Squared Triton has the G2 Stability Ring for holding spin on those long combos.
This is the first 2013 release from the 2012 New Manufacturer of the Year…visit GSquaredYoYos.com to find out where you can pick up your G-Squared Triton.
