Backspin has another beautiful new video…this one featuring 3A master Patrick Borgerding!
When Patrick Borgerding visited Poland this summer, we decided to shoot him a brand new video. And what’s better to celebrate that than shoot it in beautiful Polish Tatra Mountains with some incredible music by one of the greatest modern Polish artists – Gooral!

YoYoFactory released pics, specs, and video of their new signature model for US National 3A Champion Patrick Borgerding – the Cyborg! Designed for Patrick by Kentaro Kimura, the Cyborg is meant to be the ultimate 3A yoyo for one of the leading players in the style. Specs and video are below, as well as YoYoFactory’s official statement on this new release, due out June 1st.
Talk of signature yo-yos usually starts with an off hand comment, usually after a major contest win. Patrick Borgerding didn’t even need to make the comment when he won the USA National Contest. We already had it planned. The plan involved working with Kentaro Kimurra, long time friend, World YoYo Champion and owner of Turning Point, a boutique Japanese manufacturer. Kentaro had ideas for the perfect yoyo for Patrick and we all agreed on a design direction and plan. We tested in both 6061 and 7075 with knowledge we could choose to produce both, either or neither. We took our time. We wanted this to be a special yoyo. We made it local (every stage of the production was performed in USA) and spared no expense for finish or looks. In the end we went with 6061. Its finish stood up to hits better than 7075 and the performance couldn’t be bettered.
The end result is one of the finest yo-yos we have ever made.

YoYoFactory’s Patrick Borgerding was in attendance at the 2014 Mexican National YoYo Contest (full results here), and he rocked out a 5+ minute 3A demo, much to the crowd’s delight. Patrick is definitely one of the leading forces in 3A play, and with his new signature model on the way from YoYoFactory it’s safe to see we can expect to see a lot of him at contests this year.

Rounding out our advance coverage of yoyo offerings at the 2014 International Toy Fair is a peek at what YoYoFactory will be showing at their booth.
The new catalog is our first look at the upcoming release of the standard version of the Hubstack yoyo. With the Afterglow version shipping to stores at the end of the month, we know the specs and know what to expect. The Hubstack will be responsive out of the box, and is expected to retail for around $20.
The Preview page of the catalog is where we get to the good stuff! We get a first look at the Glow Collection Round 2, which features white glow-in-the-dark plastic versions of the Northstar, Loop 1080, and Hubstack. These are going to look great, and should be shipping to stores around the end of the month.
We also get a look at the next version of the signature model for Harold Owens III…the Too H.O.T., due in March. Refined weight distribution and a new profile should make this a top-notch competitive yoyo.
Jason Lee is getting a unique signature model…the Detour. We don’t have any specs, but this model appears to be based on the Supernova, with feedback from Jason. This is Jason’s first signature model that wasn’t a color way of something else…FINALLY! One of the most gifted natural yoyo players in the world, it’s about time we got a Jason Lee yoyo.
And coming this spring, looks like we have a new signature model for Patrick Borgerding, the CYBORG, and a new signature design for Paul Kerbel! As usual, I think we can expect great stuff from YoYoFactory this year in the metal yoyo department.
And finally, we have YoYoFactory doing what they do best: bringing new players into the sport. YoYoFactory seems to have refined their in-store teaching program, called PLAY, and created their own tiered learning system for retailers. Combined with constant touring by YoYoFactory demonstrators as well as local support, PLAY looks to be the big winner for 2014 in terms of a major manufacturer working to create new yoyo players.
