The 2015 Eastern Canadian Regional yoyo contest has come to a close and the new champion has been crowned. Congratulations to Benson Fok for taking home the gold in both 1A and Open. Be sure to check out the Canadian YoYo Association YouTube channel for the rest of the freestyles.
This video is recommended for audiences 21+.
The World Yo-Yo Contest 2015 held official after-parties on every night (Nights 1 through 4) after the contest. It was well organized, and incredibly helpful to have an officially sanctioned event. It helped unify everyone after the contest, despite everyone staying at different hotels. I think this should be a case-study for future contests, in terms of unification of players, and for monetization purposes. (Yoyo players like to party!) Details of the after-party structure can be found here: http://tokyo15.com/en/world-yo-yo-party/
The 5th night was at a nightclub in Shibuya, Tokyo, where DJ Kohta was spinning. We drank and danced until the sun came up and the trains started again.
Personal thanks to Dimi. Tokyo was too much for one person to take in, so Dimi helped shoot with another camera over several nights. So many of the great shots you see in this video were thanks to him. Without his support, this video would not have been possible. Thank you, Dimi. For more of his photos, follow him on instagram at @iam_dimi.
Music is サマーナイツ (Summernights) by Alejandro Dale.
It can be found on Soundcloud here.
Thank you for watching.

Ed Haponik just finished making some amazing fixed-axle tutorials for YoYoExpert.com and to celebrate they thought an epic fixed-axle contest was in order!
Every few days Ed will be posting a video on the YoYoExpert forum of a trick. You will have three days to film yourself successfully hitting that trick and post a link on the forums.
This will be a knockout style contest. You must compete in every round from the start of the contest and everyone who successfully completes the trick will move on. If you cannot complete a trick then you will be eliminated and cannot compete in the next round.
Once one round ends, the next will begin. The contest rounds will get increasingly difficult and will go on until we have one winner!
– Must use fixed axle yo-yo to compete.
– Must show yo-yo/axle to verify it is fixed axle in beginning of video.
– Must post video link (Youtube or Instagram) within 3 days of Ed’s posted trick.
– Must hit the trick correctly (Ed will judge) or you will be eliminated.
– Must compete in all rounds of contest from the beginning to qualify to move on.
– Once eliminated you cannot compete in any following rounds.
Get to Round 2 and Win – 10% OFF YOYOEXPERT COUPON CODE!
Get to Round 4 and Win – 20% OFF YOYOEXPERT COUPON CODE!

CONTEST BEGINS IN ONE WEEK ON APRIL 24!

The folks at Monkeyfinger are giving away a one-of-a-kind Caesar yoyo for Christmas, compete with some of their custom lube and Buff yoyo polish, all packaged in a custom wooden box. Neato!
Here are the instructions they sent on how to enter…contest ends on Dec. 30th. Be sure to visit their post on Facebook for full details on where to post your entries.
T’was the night before Christmas, and all through the lab, not a creature was stirring, not even the genetically spliced monkey crab.
The scientist had cleaned all their beakers with glee in the hopes that Saint Nick places Return Tops under kids tree.
Wishes for Geladas and Evil Yo’s were mailed to the Big Elf, but perhaps a special yo-yo would round out the collectors shelf.
A limited edition model loved by trick crafters, the artist proof Caesar, would send joy through the rafters.
Such a rare luxury, the demand would surely rise! So instead let’s give it away as a prize.
To win such a rarity there must be rules. Take a holiday story, rewrite it for you.
A few dozen words in the style of a classic could win you a Caesar, we might even wrap it.
With the understanding that Christmas is only a day away, you have until the 30th to send stories our way.
I Monkey in a Santa suit will read the entries over dinner and based on the quality, crown one story the winner.
Masanobu Iwata writes to send us a report and great news for the US 44FESTA fans!
The 10th edition of 44FESTA was held back on October, and everyone got the usual 44FESTA mix of serious yoyoing and fun for all!
The freestyle contest there is pretty serious. If you can’t wait for the Japanese contest season to start, I highly recommend checking these out!
The winners of this edition were:
- Yamato Murata (again!)
- Hajime Miura
- Daiki Tanaka
- Yuji Aida
- Yuya Yatani
The official website has tons of pictures from the freestyle contest, including this:
That’s the one and only Birthday Boy HASSY!
Two very special guests were in attendance: Mr. sOMEThING Hiroyuki Suzuki, who acted as judge and demoed for the audience, and Professor “Pon” Ishihara, who conducted this edition’s mini-contest:
The mini-contest had teams of four drawing yo-yo related themes. Here are some gems:
And a special announcement for all those attending the Las Vegas Open / Skillcon in December!
Masanobu Iwata, HASSY and Jun Taniguchi will all be in Vegas running a 44FESTA booth with goods and a few surprises! Be sure to say hi to the duck crew in a couple of weeks!

Our newest YoYoNews contributor, Piotrek Smietana, was the official videographer for the 2014 Duncan Toys International YoYo Championship held this past August at Downtown Disney in Orlando, Florida. Piotrek brought his skill and craftsmanship to the event, and this video really gives you a great idea of what it was like to be at this top-level contest with some of the best yoyo players in the world.
The players at UnitYo in the Czech Republic put together a great clip video from the recent SLYZ yoyo contest. It’s got some highlights form the contest freestyles, as well as plenty of great tricks from other players in attendance. Good stuff!
