Maria Nechiporenko, from YoYoFactory’s Russian Junior Team, just dropped this new video that has us really excited to see how her play style develops. She definitely has a lot of potential and the beginnings of some really fluid trick presentation. YoYoFactory has always been gifted at spotting the rising talent, and they’re keeping the streak going with Maria.
The lyrics in this video are most definitely NSFW, but the video is just sooooo good that I had to post it anyway. A minute plus of pure genius. Apologies to anyone with offended ears!
Guy Wright busted out this kendama trick, and coincidentally I spent about an hour today working on juggling/body moves with a kendama. But frankly, this trick is cooler than pretty much everything I was working on.
C3 YoYo Design is just killing it lately in the product video department. If they keep this up I’m going to have to just give them their own section of YoYoNews and charge them rent.
Video features Peter Pong Si Yee and Ng Wang Kit a.k.a. “Lowhand”.
ArabYoYo.com has launched as a community-based site with the goal of bringing together and serving as a central resource for yoyo players in the Middle East.
Formed by two players, Abood Dani who lists his location as Kuwait, Jordan, and Syria, and Samir Elotmani who hails from Morocco, ArabYoYo.com is another of what I consider to be massive triumphs of technology in the yoyo community.
I’m going to show my age here and say that when I first started playing, it was a full year before I met another yoyo player. My only contact to other players was the YoYo Times newsletter (which was a paper newsletter that came in the mail, infrequently) and the knowledge that somewhere, mostly on the West Coast, there were other players that I might eventually meet. That now we have active player communities in at least 50 countries and the technology to quickly and effectively connect them is nothing short of astounding to me.
ArabYoYo.com is attempting the daunting task of linking players from Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
Best of luck to ArabYoYo.com and hopefully we’ll continue seeing great updates and progress from them as they attempt to link up the player communities in more than 20 countries!
to my knowledge, the first a dedicated Vietnamese yoyo retailer…and they’ve released this great video showing a couple of their demonstrators performing at a local school and signing autographs and just generally being total rock stars. Nice work!
(EDITORS NOTE: TheGioiYoyo.vn was apparently the first dedicated Vietnamese yoyo retailer, as I was corrected in the comments. Thanks for the info!)
This is easily one of the best kendama videos I’ve ever seen…it’s just packed with solid tricks and more smiles per capita than the last five yoyo videos I watched. Amazing stuff from the Kendama USA folks!
In November 2012 the Kendama USA Pro Team traveled to Japan to explore Kendama’s roots, players, and experience the homeland of this game that has changed all of our lives. This is the full length edit of our travels and tricks. Edited by Colin Sander.

Looks like Valerie from YoYoJam is selling a rare, unproduced prototype yoyo called the “Edge”
that was “designed in cooperation with Japanese players”.
Was this going to be another signature model for Mickey before he left YoYoJam? (EDIT: Just got word from Takahiko Hasegawa that this was originally intended to be a signature model for Tomonori “Black” Ishiguro, but the shaped changed from what was eventually produced and offered in limited quantities at the World YoYo Contest.) No idea, but it sure is shiny and if there’s one thing we like here at YoYoNews….it’s stuff that is shiny.
Only five of these were ever produced, and this auction is for what appears to be the only one remaining in Valerie’s personal collection. The auction is only going for another day and change, so get your bids in soon!
2011 AP Champion and 2012 3rd Place World Champion Christopher Chia’s new signature model ANGLAM Ver. CC by sOMEThING is releasing this year, and sOMEThING just dropped this teaser video to hype it up.
I’d like to think that everyone who gets a signature model from sOMEThING also gets brightly colored plastic sunglasses that they are required to wear while playing, but I’m sure Christoper just brought his own.
And here is Christopher’s special performance freestyle at the 2012 Malaysian YoYo Championship, in case you forgot how awesome he is.
Ahmad Kharisma is an up-and-coming young player from Indonesia, sponsored by YoYoRecreation, and Ray Tambunan is a member of Indonesia’s SpinMe YoYo Club. Together they do not come together and form a giant robot, but they do make for a pretty good battle video.
I’m ridiculously excited to announce the 2013 roster for 365yoyotricks.com. If you haven’t been following, I started 365 in 2011 to see if I could create, film, and post an original yoyo trick every day. I pulled it off, and it was exhausting. So for 2012, I put together a roster of players whose play styles I really enjoy, and had them contribute weekly tricks. I’m continuing this for 2013 with a new roster of players; I’ll be contributing 3 tricks a week, and the players below will each contribute one…plus we’ll have special guest players pop in from time to time! So without further ado, here is the roster for the 2013 season of 365yoyotricks.com:
National Yo-yo Master and 2003 5A World Champion, Rafael is known for his highly conceptual and visually-appealing tricks. He is the founder and president of the Brazilian YoYo Association, and head organizer for the Brazilian National YoYo Contest. He spends most of his time disguised as a computer geek.
Co-winner of the 2007 Trick Innovator of the Year Award, Jake is one of the most gifted and under-appreciated counterweight yoyo players in the world. Jake was a massive force in the early development of tech counterweight play and, along with Jonathan Robinson, ushered in a new style of counterweight play that dominates contests to this day.
Darnell Hairston is an up-and-coming player from the Cleveland YoYo Club who managed to land a spot on the coveted YoYoFactory Protege Team. Mentored by National YoYo Master Steve Brown, expect to see Darnell destroying contests all over the Midwest in 2013.
Spencer Berry is responsible for a tremendous number of the building blocks of modern yoyo play. He is the creator of genre-defining tricks such as Breath, Rancid Milk, and Laceration and is generally regarded as one of the founders of modern yoyo play. His signature yoyo, Walter, will be available in 2013.
