YoYoFactory has dropped two more videos featuring their upcoming titanium release, the Ricochet. Previously covered on YoYoNews, the Ricochet will be available from YoYoExpert on March 17th. In the meantime, here’s what it can do in the hands of two more of your favorite pros…
Next up to test the boundaries of the upcoming YoYoFactory Ricochet we have multi-time Czech National and European Champion, Vashek Kroutil. Clocking in at 55 seconds, Vashek’s run is stylish and impressive.
And last but not least, Clint Armstrong cranks an impressive 1:18 with a combo that just. never. ends. Not sure what’s more impressive here, the throw or the thrower. I think Clint can make anything look good, but the Ricochet sure seems to help.

YoYoFactory players Clint Armstrong and Ibrahim Rahman are riding the front of a wave of new players that you should all be paying a lot of attention to. If you haven’t been paying attention to them, here’s your chance to get started.
Day 1 of the 2015 World Yo-yo Contest comes to an end after a marathon of over 250 players going through the wildcard round for all divisions! Here are the results!
As expected, this was a tough and cruel round for the 169 players competing for a spot in tomorrow’s preliminaries. Only 33 players made it through, with some of the crowd favorites failing to advance. The American players did a great job, with six players (Andrew Bergen, Colin Beckford, Eric Tran-Ton, Clint Armstrong, Kevin Nicholas, and Lucas Gremler) among the qualified, along with two contestants from China (Pisco and Weichuan Wang) and one from Hong Kong (Benson Fok). Among those who failed to make the cut were Vashek Kroutil, Hidemasa Senba, Eric Koloski, and Ryosuke Iwasawa.
These are the qualified players in 1A:
Full results for 1A can be found here.
With only one player outside Japan competing in the wildcard round, it’s no surprise that all eleven qualified players are Japanese. We hoped 1999 World Champion Takumi Nagase would make it, but he was unable to match the speed of the current 2A generation.
3A has been improving at a fast pace, and the times when just being able to throw double-trapeze were enough to be competitive are long gone. Almost all of the competitors in the 3A wildcard round are Japanese, but Ayoun Kuo from Taiwan managed to squeeze into the next round!
There are a lot of people who want Rei Iwakura’s spot as king of offstring! No less than forty-two players competed in this division, including a handful from the world’s 4A elite! Ben Conde, Bryan Figueroa, and Naoto Okada had no trouble making it to the preliminary round, while two-time World Champion Eiji Okuyama, and Atsushi Yamada both failed to make it through in this tough division.
Counterweight is the contest’s smallest division, and while the number of contestants was small, we are super excited about the players who are competing, and even though 2004 World Champion Makoto Numagami was unable to make it through, the wildcard ranking is led by two equally legendary names: Hiroyasu “Pon” Ishihara, and 2001 World Champion Shingo Terada!
The full list for 2A-5A can be found here.
Stay tuned for more updates from the greatest contest ever!

The 2015 Bay Area Classic was held this past weekend, and once again some of the best players in the US gathered for a full day of fierce competition. The ENTIRE 1A Finals list was stacked with champions, but CLYW’s Andrew Maider came out on top with his best freestyle yet. Tyler Hsieh pulled out a nice routine in the otherwise sparse 2A Division, while Elliot Ogawa took home a hard-won 1st Place trophy in the 3A Division. The 4A Division had a World Champion squaring off against a National Champion, with Michael Nakamura taking home top honors, and the 5A division saw contest stalwart Tyler Severance from YoYoFactory taking home his FIFTH win at the Bay Area Classic! Congrats to all the winners!

This epic video shows off YoYoFactory at their best…bringing yoyoing to everyone they can, and finding adventure everywhere.
YoYoFactory has a goal of spreading yo-yo. Often there are commercial aspects that must be taken into account for this to be sustainable (i.e. we need to make money to be able to afford to do it in the future). In the middle of 2014 we reached a cross-roads. We weren’t doing it right. We faced a change. In the face of this we decided to go back to our roots. Take yo-yo to the people. We considered somewhere exotic, perhaps a sparsely populated island? Maybe on top of a high mountain chain like the Andes? How about a tribe so remote the mail is still delivered by mules…. a mere 5hrs from our office?
Supai Arizona was this place. Its beauty contrasts by the difficulties facing its residents who despite their isolation (6hrs by mule to a car which is hrs again from any significant town) are right in the middle of everything wrong with the modern age (diet, fashion and media expectations). These kids grow up in a fishbowl which is funded by tourists who walk through looking into their lives on their way to see the areas most precious resource; the blue water that cascades over some of the most beautiful water falls in the world.
The Crew was built around our pro, Tyler Severance. Clint Armstrong came in as pro #2, Reece Schofield came as our web designer/camping support/ /r/throwers moderator. We set off at 3am, getting to the cliff top at 8am. The route down was either a 6hr horse ride, 8hr hike or 10min on a helicopter…. yes we took the chopper.
