YoYoFactory’s Ben McPhee started testing the waters on Facebook about a new titanium yoyo, and the idea has really caught fire! What started with Ben saying “I want to make a new titanium yoyo because I want one” has turned in to a Facebook group to track the progress, CAD drawings, and an IndieGoGo page to raise funds for the project, all in just a few days. Here is what Ben had to say about the project:
My name is Ben McPhee and I work for YoYoFactory®.
We started making yoyos in 2003 and now make a wide range of fine yoyos (even if I do say so myself).
We started making yoyos because we love yoyos. We still do. We make crazy projects every now and then. YoYoFactory® made the first yoyo to spin for over 20 minutes. We helped make the biggest functioning yoyo in the world and then made the smallest functioning modern performance yoyo. (Shhh… we even have a design with an electro-pulse driven motor for even longer spins.)
Our objective today isn’t so ambitious and its purely selfish. We want fresh new titanium yo-yos to play with.
That’s it. It’s simple. Titanium yoyos are pretty cool. Titanium is very strong, allowing us to cut it thinner and achieve extreme weight distribution not possible in more common materials. Its also cool to touch and sounds AMAZING. We have made titanium yoyos before but now we want to make a full-sized competition-ready titanium yoyo. This has never been done on any significant scale.
We are seeking to raise $20,000. Because this will allow us to order enough to make it affordable to share it with you guys, our friends, and anyone else who like us, wants a new full sized titanium yoyo.
You want one too? GREAT!
Let’s do this!
You can help fund the production of this yoyo on IndieGoGo here, and you can chime in with suggestions and comments on their Facebook group here. We’ve added a widget for the project to the YoYoNews sidebar so that you can keep up with the funding progress easily. Good luck, Ben!
Thanks Steve / YoYoNews!
