Repercussions – Donald Hodgkinson
Donald Hodgkinson just released a new video featuring his stellar 3A and even showed us a little 1A! Donald is a rising star in the American 3A scene and he continues to improve with each year. Donald was the 2012 US National Runner-Up in the 3A division but could not attend the 2013 US Nationals–certainly makes you wonder what he could have done had be been there! Enjoy some quality 3A and some Werrd domination with Repercussions by Donald Hodgkinson:
Yomega Releases Star Wars Edition Glides
Yomega has finally released the Star Wars edition Glide yoyos they first showed back in February at the International Toy Fair in New York.
These special editions come in four versions: Rebel Alliance, Galactic Empire, Boba Fett, and Darth Vader. These look great in person, and I think we’re all relieved that they skipped Jar Jar Binks and Darth Maul and kept with more classic designs.
All four versions are available at Yomega.com for $130 each. A bit steep for playing with, but I’ve never seen that deter Star Wars collectors.
CLYW Announces New Business Model
CLYW today announced some interesting news; beginning soon they will be handling sales of their upcoming models themselves, while only shipping “legacy models” to retailers. This means if you want the new Arctic Circle 2: Second Expedition you’ll need to buy it direct from CLYW, but you’ll be able to continue purchasing older models like the Cliff from stores like YoYoExpert.
Personally, I think it’s a great idea and it allows Chris the opportunity to do what he does best: custom-build an amazing brand experience for his collectors. Here’s his full letter…feel free to sound off in the comments section below with your opinions on this new move for CLYW.
Hello all,
Over the next month we’re going to be making some changes with how we are selling our return tops. Currently we offer most of our throws to a select group of stores that are listed on our stocklist. These stores have been instrumental with growing CLYW around the world. For that I am truly thankful!!
Last year we did really well considering the amount of CLYW return tops that got into hands of yoyoers around the world, but after all the dust settled, we really didn’t have much to show for it financially. We have a large team, employees, artwork contractors, rental space, relatively high production costs, plus we funded a very expensive plastic project … the costs all add up … and something just isn’t quite working with how we’re doing things, so we need to step back and make some changes.
One of these changes is switching to more of a direct sales approach. In November/December we’re going to be releasing 4 brand new models: the Gnarwhal 2, Arctic Circle 2, Bonfire and Puffin 2. Initially the first few runs will be sold direct in order to help get CLYW pointed in the right direction. We’re also going to be selling the first run of coloured Yetis direct too. Stores on our stocklist will still be offered runs of our legacy throws (BvM2’s, Sasquatch, Avalanche, Chiefs, Black Yetis), and then we’ll see how things go from there.
I know this comes as a bit of a shock to most of you as it doesn’t quite follow the current formula we are all used to in this industry, but I hope that you understand where we’re coming from with this. It is not my goal to make CLYW into a massive company that sells ‘products’ to every single toy store / retailer in the world. I just want to have fun. Take care of my family and team. AND make some cool stuff along the way. At the end of the day CLYW is still just a small business run by people who love yoyoing and love this community.
The CLYW store will have free shipping to the US and Canada for orders above $100 and free shipping to the UK and Japan for orders above $150.
Thank you for your continued support and if you have any questions/comments please feel free to contact us.
Regards,
Chris

2013 Illinois State YoYo Contest (11.23)
The 2013 Illinois State YoYo Contest is coming up in a few weeks, and online registration has opened on their website.
This year’s event will once again be held at Navy Pier, in conjunction with the 2013 Chicago Toy & Game Fair. From their website:
James Buffington, Bill Alrifai, and Ben Conde are all back as organizers, and have plans to make this year’s contest something special. There will be the usual Sport Ladder, 1A Freestyles, Aerial Freestyles, and Dual freestyles divisions; but for the after party we’ll have a special invitation-only All-Star Battle. Some of the best players in the country will compete to showcase their skills and win bragging rights.
Judges for the contest are still being determined, but they will be some of the best in the sport. Many, if not all, will be taking part in the All-Star Battle.
Check back often for updates on both the website and Facebook page. This is one contest you don’t want to miss!
European YoYo Conference and South Poland Classic clip
Piotrek from Backspin sends us this clip video from the European YoYo Conference, held in July in Czestochowa, Poland, in conjunction with the South Poland Classic.
Europe is doing a great job of pushing the sport forward, and we’re quite impressed with the quality and organization of the events being held there recently!

Their national contest traditionally attracts lots of foreign players, making for a pretty strong international division every year. János Karancz won last year’s title and this year Ricardo Marechal’s signature foot tricks got him the title.

44FESTA – Vol.03
Masanobu Iwata sends us a report from another fantastic edition of 44FESTA in Japan!
The event was held last Sunday, October 20th, in Yamato, and it was once again a successful event for all yo-yo enthusiasts in Japan.
The special guests this edition were the multiple-time World Champion Hiroyuki Suzuki, and Hiroyasu “Pon” Ishihara, of YoyoRecreation.
44FESTA’s traditional surprise mini-contest this time consisted in hitting a target with a yo-yo. The target? Pon himself!
The freestyle contest winner was Shu Takada, followed by the younger generation talent of Yamato Murata and Hajime Miura!
Check out all the freestyles on 44FESTA.com.
Several yo-yo legends showed up as well, including former 4A World Champion Eiji Okuyama, Hiraku Fujii, Satoshi Yamauchi, Kazuki Hayashi, Ryusei Saito, and “Master” Kenichi Nakamura!
The next 44FESTA will be held on November 23rd! If you are in the area, be sure to attend!
